Abstract: The invention relates to a method for treating a product stream containing vitamin E acetate, consisting of the following stages: a) the product stream is fed to a thin-film evaporator, falling-film evaporator or flash evaporato r and a stream predominantly containing vitamin E acetate is drawn off as a bottom stream from said evaporator; b) the vapour stream from stage a) is fe d to a partial condensation consisting of at least two stages. The invention also relates to falling-film evaporators for separating substance mixtures, whereby one or more heat exchangers are directly integrated into the vapour chamber of the falling-film evaporator.

Abstract: IMPROVED PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF SALCOMINE AS WELL AS THE PREPARATION OF TRIMETHYL-p-BENZOQUINONE FROM TRIMETHYLPHENOL USING THE RESULTANT SALCOMINE of the Disclosuore Improved process for the preparation of salcomine useful as an oxidation catalyst for the oxidation of alkylated phenols to the corresponding alkylated p-benzo-quinones by reacting salicylaldehyde with ethylenediamine in a mole ratio of about 2:1 and a cobalt salt in a liquid reaction medium wherein the reaction medium is a linear or cyclic carboxamide which is disubstituted on the nitrogen, in particular dimethylformamide, and the cobalt salt is cobalt carbonate or with the cobalt hydroxide carbonate, 2 CoCO3.3 Co(OH)2.H2O. Preparation of the salcomine in accordance with the invention offers significant advantages, both in the preparation of the salcomine itself and in the subsequent oxidation of the trimethylphenol to trimethyl-p-benzoquinone utilizing the salcomine.
