Abstract: The invention relates to a method for simultaneous production of 6-aminocapronitrile and hexamethylenediamine from adipodinitrile, comprising the following steps: a) hydrogenating adipodinitrile in the presence of a catalyst containing an element of the VIII subgroup thereby obtaining a mixture containing 6-aminocapronitrile, hexamethylenediamine, adipodinitrile and high boilers; b) distillative separation of hexamethylenediamine from the mixture containing 6-aminocapronitrile, hexamethylenediamine, adipodinitrile and high boilers or c1) distillative separating 6-aminocapronitrile and subsequently d1) distillative separation of adipodinitrile or c2) simultaneous distillative separation of 6-aminocapronitrile and adipodinitrile into separate fractions. The invention is characterized in that temperatures in the bottoms of the column in steps d1) or c2) are under 185 DEG C. The adipodinitrile thus obtained contains less impurities than for instance 1-amino-2-cyanocyclopentenes.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing cyclic lactams of the formul a (II), wherein n and m may each represent 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 and the sum of n + m is at least 3, preferably at least 4, R1 and R2 represent C 1- C6 alkyl, C5-C7 cycloalkyl or C6-C12 aryl groups, by reacting a compound of the formula (I), wherein R1, R2, m and n have the meaning indicated above, a nd R represents nitrile groups, carboxylic acid amide groups and carboxylic aci d groups, with water vapor in the gaseous phase. The inventive method is furth er characterized in that a) the compound (I) is reacted with water vapor in the gaseous phase, adding an organic diluent (III) before or after the reaction, which diluent has a miscibility gap under certain quantitative, pressure and temperature conditions, said reaction resulting in a mixture (IV) that contains a lactam (II), b) adjusting the mixture (IV) before or after the removal of ammonia to quantitative, pressure and temperature conditions unde r which the diluent (III) and water are present in a liquid form and have a miscibility gap, and obtaining a two-phase system consisting of a phase (V) that has a higher proportion of diluent (III) than water, and a phase (VI) that has a higher proportion of water than diluent (III), c) separating phas e (V) fromphase (VI) and, d) removing from phase (V) the diluent (III) and optionally by-products selected from the group of the low-boilers, high- boilers and unreacted compound (I), and obtaining a lactam (II).

Removal of trialkylammonium formate from polyhydric alcohols produced by aldolization of formaldehyde with a higher aldehyde in the presence of an amine catalyst and hydrogenation of the resulting mono- or polymethylol alkanal comprises treating the aldolization product and/or hydrogenation product with a strongly basic ion exchanger and distilling the hydrogenation product at a bottom temperature below 200 deg C and a pressure below 400 mbar with a short residence time to remove the trialkylammonium formate together with methanol, trialkylamine and optionally water.
