Abstract: Iodine complexes of formula (RMCONR2R3)2.AI3 (I) are new. In the formula, R1=1-5C alkyl, aryl or di-(1-5C) alkylamino; R2 and R3 = 1-5C alkyl or aryl, or R1 plus R2 together form (CH2)n, where n = 3-5; and A = H or an alkali metal. Complexes (I) are prepd. by reacting R1CONR2R3 with I2 at 40-160 degrees C or with I2 and AI at room temp. (I) have bactericidal and fungicidal activity and are useful as disinfectants, together with usual carriers and diluents. (I) is 1-50 wt. % of these compsns. They are also useful as I2-carriers for chemical reactions. (I) are stable and contain I2 in readily available form, but do not have the high room-temp. vapour pressure of I2 so remain stable even on prolonged storage.
