Abstract: The catalyst is in tablet form having a diameter of 0.8-5 mm and a height of 0.8-5 mm. The catalyst is prepared by: (a) precipitating a solution of zinc and aluminium salts (Zn:Al ratio is 3-1:1-3) with and alkali carbonate or hydroxide solution at a pH of 5-12 and a temperature of 20-100 degrees C; (b) removing and washing the precipitate to remove alkali ions; (c) drying the precipitate; (d) calcining the precipitate at 250-800 degrees C to a mixed oxide; (e) dispersing the mixed oxide in an acid solution of copper and zinc salts (Cu:Zn ratio is 1-20:5-1); (f) precipitating the dispersion with an alkali carbonate or hydroxide solution at a pH of 6-9 and a temperature of 20-100 degrees C; and (g) repeating steps (b) to (d). The solutions in steps (a) and/or (e) additionally contain oxides of platinum group metals, groups 5, 11 and the lanthanides.

Abstract: The application relates to the preparation of a sulphur-free iron-oxide- and chromium-oxide-containing high temperature conversion catalyst, an iron oxide being used which is prepared from iron carbonyl and which has a mean grain size below 10 mu m and a specific surface area of more than 10 m /g. The chromium oxide component is applied to the iron oxide by precipitation. The chromium component used is CrO3 and is precipitated as insoluble chromium(III) compounds by reducing agents.

Abstract: Novel coated catalysts and a process for their preparation by atomizing a mixture of water and a vanadium-V compound, with or without other metal compounds, and applying this mixture to carrier particles which are themselves in motion, drying the coating and subjecting the catalyst particles, which are themselves in motion, to repeated brief treatment with a flame or plasma, followed by rapid cooling, defined temperatures and rates of coating being employed. The catalysts may be used with advantage for the preparation of anthraquinones by oxidation of indans.

The mixt is formed, and dried, and calcined.
