    Abstract: In polymerization of monomers with ethylenically unsaturated groups in open chain structures in the molecule, the polymerization catalyst is a heterogenized metal complex (I) obtained by contacting a homogeneous metal complex (II) with a suitable support material, where (II) has a mono- to hexa-valent solvated metal cation containing a group 3-12 transition metal, lanthanide or group 2 or 13 metal, 1 or more molecules of solvent and optionally charged ligand, and weakly or non-coordinating anion. In polymerization of monomers with ethylenically unsaturated groups in open chain structures in the molecule, the polymerization catalyst is a heterogenized metal complex (I) obtained by contacting a homogeneous metal complex of formula (II) with a suitable support material: [M(L)a(Z)b]m+> m(A->) (II); M : a group 3-12 transition metal, a lanthanide or a group 2 or 13 metal; L : a solvent molecule; Z : a ligand with 1 or more charges; A->a weakly or non-coordinating anion; a : 1 or more; b : 0, 1 or more; a+b : 4-8; m : 1-6. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) heterogenized metal complexes (IA), suitable as polymerization catalysts, obtained by contacting specified homogeneous metal complexes (IIA) with a suitable support material; (2) use of (I) as catalyst in the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers; (3) highly reactive copolymers of isobutene and vinylaromatic monomer(s) produced by this process.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a solvent-stable metal catalyst having slightly coordinating counter anions of formula I [M(L) a (Z) b ] m+ m(A - )(I), wherein M represents a transition metal of groups 3-12 of the periodic system, a lanthanide or a metal of groups 2 or 13 of the periodic system; L represents a solvent molecule; Z represents a mono or polycharged ligand; A - represents a slightly or non coordinated anion; a represents a whole number which is greater than or equal to 1; b represents a whole number which is greater than or equal to 1, whereby the total from a and b is between 4 and 8, and m represents a whole number from 1 6.
