    Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing beaded, expansible styrene polymers that contain: (a) polystyrene and/or styrene copolymer with at least 50 % by weight styrene incorporated by polymerization; (b) 0.001 to 0.2 % by weight, in relation to (a), of an organic tin compound; and (c) 2 to 10 % by weight, in relation to (a), of an aliphatic C3-C7-hydrocarbon and/or carbon dioxide as a blowing agent. Styrene and possibly other comonomers are polymerized in an aqueous suspension and before 50 % thereof are reacted 0.001 to 0.20 % by weight of an organic tin compound, and possibly 0.2 to 4 % by weight, in relation to the monomer weight, of an organic bromine compound, are added to the mixture; 2 to 10 % by weight of a C3-C7-hydrocarbon and/or carbon dioxide are added before, during or after polymerization as a blowing agent.

    Abstract: Polyoxymethylene molding materials having improved heat stability and consisting of (A) one or more polyoxymethylene homopolymers and/or copolymers and (B) one or more antioxidants having a sterically hindered phenolic structure, (C) with or without additives, contain (D) as an additive, one or more alkaline earth metal silicates and/or alkaline earth metal glycerophosphates, advantageously in an amount of from 0.002 to 2.0% by weight, based on the weight of component (A), for improving the heat stability, reducing the tendency to discoloration and minimizing the free formaldehyde content. To prepare the novel polyoxymethylene molding materials, the components are advantageously melted in an extruder at from 150 DEG to 260 DEG C. The polyoxymethylene molding materials are useful for the production of films or, preferably, moldings, which are used, for example, in the automotive, electrical appliances and electronics industries.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polyaryl sulphides having low fusion. To this end, a dihaloaromatic is reacted with an alkali metal sulphide in an amide or lactam as the solvent at temperatures between 190 and 300 DEG C in the presence of 0.03 to 1.5 mol of an alkali metal silicate per mol of alkali metal sulphide. Preferred alkali metal silicates are sodium metasilicate and potassium metasilicate in the form of their hydrates.

In the examples beads or granulates of polystyrene containing pentane are coated with powdered stearic, behenic, myristic or oleic N- stearylamide, stearic N-oleylamide, stearic N-2- ethylhexylamide, or behenic or myristic N-laurylamide. The coated particles may be pre-expanded with steam, stored and then expanded in a mould with steam.
