Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oligomeric diarylbutadiene carboxylic ester having a specified oligomeric structure and high absorption in UV-A range, optically stable, soluble in oil or water according to its substrate group and applicable to preparing a light-shielding agent useful for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. SOLUTION: The oligomeric 4,4-diarylbutadiene carboxylic ester of formula I [R1 and R2 are each H, an aliphatic group or the like; R3 is an aliphatic group, a cycloaliphatic group or the like; Y is O or a group of formula II (R4 is H, an aliphatic group or the like); (m) is 2-10; (n) is 1-3; X is a (m)-valent polyol group having 2-10 hydroxyl group] is obtained by Knoevenagel condensation of (m) mol aldehyde of formula III with an oligomeric (substituted) acetate of formula IV in an organic polar solvent (e.g. dimethylformamide) preferably at 40-150 deg.C using a catalyst (e.g. ammonium acetate).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic or a medicinal preparation exhibiting a high light-protecting factor as much as possible with a very low concentration of a UV-absorbing agent by containing a specific triazine derivative and zinc oxide in a specific ratio. SOLUTION: This cosmetic or medicinal preparation contains (A) 0.1-10 wt.% one or more kinds of 1,3,5-triazine derivatives of formula I R1 to R3 are each a (substituted) 1-20C alkyl or a (hetero)aryl; X is O or NR4 [R4 is H, a (substituted) 1-20C alkyl or a (hetero)aryl]} and (B) 0.1-15 wt.% zinc oxide. Preferably, it contains 1-8 wt.% compound of the formula I in which R1 to R3 are each a 4-8C alkyl, X is O or NR4 (R4 is H or a 4-8C alkyl) and 0.1-10 wt.% component B, and more preferably contains 2-6 wt.% compound of the formula II of 2,4,6-trianilino-p-(carbo-2'-ethyl-hexyl-1'-oxy)-1,3,5-triazine and 2-8 wt.% component B. Preferably it has a light protecting factor of >14.

Abstract: In selective dissolution of homo- or copolyoxymethylene (I), irradiated with actinic radiation, the liq. organic developer medium consists of a phenol deriv. (II) with free phenolic OH gps. and at least one other substit. in the phenol ring. Synchrotron radiation is used. To make micro-mouldings, (I) is irradiated selectively with actinic parallel radiation from x-ray sources in an erosion depth of 10-2000 microns with lateral dimensions to less than 10 microns and developed in (II). USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is used for making micro-mouldings with high aspect ratio (claimed). Cpds. of (II) type are less toxic than phenol, have less odour, are readily available and give structures of better quality.

Abstract: Polyester resins on the basis of hydroxyl groups-containing prepolymers from olefinically unsaturated monomers are prepared by (1) polymerizing a mixture of (a) 60 to 90% by weight styrol or a styrol derivate having the general formula (I), in which R , R and R stand for hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and n equals 1 or 2, or a C2-C10-olefin with one or two conjugated double bonds, or a mixture thereof; (b) 0 to 40% by weight C1-C12-alkylester of acrylic or methacrylic acid, acryl- or methacryl-nitril, acryl-or methacrylamide, which may be substituted at the amide-nitrogen by one or two C1-C4-alkyl groups, maleic anhydride or maleic acid imide, which may be substituted at the imide-nitrogen by a C1-C4-alkyl group, or a mixture thereof; (c) 0 to 20% by weight one or several hydroxyl group-containing acrylic or methacrylic acid derivates; and (d) 0 to 2% by weight one or several olefinically poly-unsaturated monomers; to obtain a prepolymer A, into which the hydroxyl groups are inserted by means of hydroxyl groups-containing regulators when the monomer component (c) is missing and by a mixture of (A) 5 to (95% by weight prepolymer A; (B) 0 to 95% by weight another low molecular or high molecular polyol, a polyester or a polyamid, or a mixture thereof; and (C) 5 to 70% by weight one or several aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acids C or their C1-C4-alkylesters. Carboxylic acids or their C1-C4-alkylesters having more than two carboxyl groups per molecule, monocarboxylic acids or their C1-C4 alkylesters, hydroxymonocarboxylic acids or their C1-C4-alkylesters or mixtures thereof, as well as waxes may also be present during polycondensation. These polyester resins are suitable as binders for electrophotographic toners and for the receiving layers in the thermodiffusion printing method.

Compounds of formula (I) are used as photostable UV filters in cosmetic and pharmaceutical compositions for protecting human skin and hair against solar radiation: X = O, CO, optionally substituted imino or CR9R10; Y = CO or CR9R10; R1, R2 = CN, alkanoyl, aroyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, optionally substituted carbamoyl, alkylsulfinyl, arylsulfinyl, alkylsulfonyl, arylsulfonyl or optionally substituted sulfamoyl; R3 = H, CN, OH, COOH, CONH2, Q, OQ, CONHQ or COOQ; Q = 1-20C alkyl or 5-20C aryl; R4 = H, OH, NH2, Q or OQ; R5-R10 = H or 1-20C alkyl, or R7+R8 can be oxo.
