    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a colorless and colorless cosmetic or medical composition easy to handle, containing (meth)acrylic ester (co)polymer(s) under specific conditions. SOLUTION: This cosmetic or medical composition contains at least one kind of polymer >=-35 deg.C in glass transition temperature containing =20wt.% of a (meth)acrylic ester and prepared by free radical emulsion polymerization or suspension polymerization in the presence of a chain transfer reagent, or copolymer(s) with a free radical- copolymerizable monomer. It is preferable that the (co)polymer is made from 40-100wt.% of a 1-30C (meth)acrylic ester, 0-30wt.% of a free radical- copolymerizable water-soluble monomer, 0-40wt.% of free radical- copolymerizable (meth)acrylamide, and 0-30wt.% of another free radical- polymerizable monomer. This composition can be used as a sunscreening preparation, cosmetic for caring for the body, face and hands or preparation for repelling insects, in the form of cream, lotion, milk, oil or gel.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a medicine for cosmetic which is excellent in water resistance, processability, miscibility with other components and stability and shows low skin permeability and low toxicity by formulating a specific polymer bearing a UV-light absorbent organic group thereto. SOLUTION: This medicine contains a polymer of formula I (R and R' are each H, an alkali metal, an ammonium and an alkyl; X is a direct linkage and an oxoalkylene bearing an alkylene or 0; Y is a UV-light absorbent organic group; (n) is 2-800). Among compounds of formula I, a compound in which R' is an 8-20C alkyl and a compound in which Y is a group absorbing a light of wavelength of 200-400nm are preferable. As the Y, e.g. groups of formula II and formula III are illustrated. The polymer of formula I is obtained by polymerizing maleic anhydride with a monomer of formula IV.

    Abstract: Described are cosmetic preparations containing light-screening agents designed to protect the human epidermis against UV light in the region from 280 to 400 nm. The light-screening agents are contained in a carrier compound suitable for cosmetic purposes together with compounds of the formula (I), as given in claim 1, in which R , R and n are as defined in clause 1, which absorb in the UV-B region and are per se prior art for cosmetic preparations, in amounts which are active as photostable UV-A filters.
