Abstract: Maleic anhydride copolymer powders are prepared by a process wherein a solution or dispersion of maleic anhydride in an alkyl vinyl ether and/or an alkene, containing from 3 to 25 moles of the alkyl vinyl ether and/or alkene per mole of maleic anhydride, is brought into contact with a powder bed under polymerization conditions, and is polymerized in the bed while the reaction mass is circulated and the powder state is maintained, and the heat generated during polymerization is removed by evaporating excess monomer which boils lower than maleic anhydride.

Abstract: 1. A process for the preparation of reaction products of alkanolamines with unsaturated fatty acids of 12 to 30 carbon atoms or fatty acid mixtures of 12 to 30 carbon atoms containing unsaturated constituents by reacting the components at elevated temperature, wherein the fatty acid component and at least one dialkanolamine of 2 or 3 carbon atoms per hydroxyalkyl radical are allowed to act on one another in a molar ratio of 1:1.0 to 1.6 at a temperature of from 110 to 140 degrees C in the absence of solvents, and the reaction is discontinued when the reaction mixture has an acid number of 45 to 75.

Abstract: New amidothioether gp.-substd. oligomers and (co)polymers having K-value 10-160, contain structural units having formula -CH2-CR(-CONH-R1-S-R2-OH)- (where R is H or Me; R1 is 1-8C alkylene and R2 is 1-4C alkylene, cycloalkylene or arylene). The polymers can be used in the prodn. of articles, coatings, or adhesives, or for finishing textiles or metal surfaces. Copolymers with styrene are soluble, e.g. in DMF, miscible with pigments and can be modified at low temps., e.g. by forming sulphonium derivs. by reaction with alkylene oxides. The polymers contain reactive functional gps., are stable to saponification and can be modified chemically.

Abstract: The 12-30C fatty alcohols are obtd. by reacting (a) 5-60 mol. propylene oxide and/or (b) 0.05-20 mol. ethylene oxide, with 1 mol. of the alcohol. Effective amts. used comprise 0.005-0.1, pref. 0.01-0.06%, calc. on the dry fibres in the paper fibre suspension. The cpd. has max. activity with min. consumption. It forms emulsions with oils which are stable over prolonged periods and which do not cream up. The cpd. has a relatively reduced viscosity.
