    Abstract: 1515154 Graft polymerization process BASF AG 17 Oct 1975 [25 Oct 1974] 42549/75 Heading C3P A graft polymer is produced by contacting shaped elements of diameter 0À05 to 1 cm. of a copolymer of ethylene and an unsaturated carboxylate ester in a mixing zone at 10 to 30‹ C. with from 0À5 to 10% by weight, based on the copolymer, of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or anhydride containing a free-radical initiator dissolved therein, allowing the acid or anhydride containing initiator to diffuse through the copolymer and polymerizing the mixture at 50 to 100‹ C. in the absence of air. Examples are given in which granules of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or ethylene/nbutyl acrylate copolymer are grafted with acrylic acid.

    Abstract: 1,228,921. Chlorinating ethylene polymers. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 28 Aug., 1968 [29 Aug., 1967], No. 41123/68. Heading C3P. A chlorinated ethylene polymer is prepared by allowing gaseous chlorine to act on a finely particled compact ethylene polymer which has been obtained by high pressure polymerization and which has an average particle diameter with the range from 200 to 800 microns and a specific surface area of from 70 to 300 cm. 2 /g. in the absence of solvents and suspension agents. Suitable polymers are homopolymers of ethylene or copolymers of ethylene with one or more other singly unsaturated olefins e.g. propylene or n-butene. The ethylene polymer may have a molecular weight of 10,000 to 180,000 and a density of 0À880 to 0.938 g./cm. 3 . The chlorination may be carried out in a fluidized bed, a rotary kiln or a stirred vessel.

A moulding material contains 10 to 90% by weight of a chlorinated low-density polyethylene and 90 to 10% by weight of a chlorinated high-density polyethylene, both percentages being with reference to the total content of chlorinated polyethylene. Chlorinated lowdensity polyethylene is prepared by chlorinating a low-density polyethylene in the molecular weight range of 20,000 to 180,000 and of density 0À900 to 0À938 g.cm. 3 , and preferably has a chlorine content of from 5 to 5% by weight of chlorine with reference to the chlorinated polymer. Chrlorinated high-density polyethylene is prepared by chlorinating a highdensity polyethylene in the molecular weight range of 300,000 to 3,000,000 and of density 0À930 to 0À960 g./cm. 3 , and preferably has a chlorine content of 10 to 30% by weight of chlorine with reference to the chlorinated polymer.

    Abstract: The invention relates to soft, elastic polyurethane sheets, expediently having a thickness of from 0.3 to 3 mm, which are produced by sintering pulverulent thermoplastic polyurethanes having a melt flow index of from 50 to 350 at 190 DEG C under a weight of 212 N, and having a Shore A hardness of from 80 to 98, preferably in the presence of from 0.05 to 1 part by weight of a pulverulent aluminium oxide and/or silica gel per 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic polyurethane, by means of a heatable mould. The polyurethane sheets are preferably used for coating mouldings for the interior of motor vehicles.
