    Abstract: The invention relates to prepregs for high-performance composite materials comprising a vinyl ester urethane resin and aligned reinforcing fibres. The resin is the product of the reaction of A) a polyfunctional isocyanate, optionally B1) a polyhydric alcohol and/or B2) a polyamine, and C) a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, which contains less than 2 % by weight of unsaturated monomers and in particular virtually no styrene.

    Abstract: Curable, thickened moulding materials, contain the following components: (A) 100 pts.wt. vinyl ester (urethane) resin; (B) 0-80 pts.wt. unsatd. polyester resin compatible with (A); (C) 0.1-25 pts.wt. thickening agent; (D) 0.1-10 pts.wt. basic metal cpd. thickener; (E) 0.01-5 pts.wt. polymerisation initiator that breaks up into radicals above 50 deg.C; (F) 0-400 pts.wt. reinforcing fibres and/or fillers; and (G) opt. additional additives. (C) comprises a hemiester of an polyether polyol (mixt.) of formula (Ca) and a dicarboxylic acid anhydride; A(-R-O)x-OHy (Ca) A = polyol or polyamine with 3-6 functional gps.; R = 2-4C alkylenyl; x = 1-100; and y = 3-6. Also claimed are (i) the prepn. of the materials by mixing components (A),(B),(C),(E),(F) and (G), adding (D) at a temp. less than 50 deg C to commence thickening and opt. applying the runny material to reinforcing fibres, and then terminating thickening opt. by heating, and (ii) use of the materials for the prepn. of shaped articles by (injection) press moulding, injection moulding or deep drawing and then curing at temps. greater than 50 (80-200) deg C.
