    Abstract: Recycled plastic moulding materials (I) are claimed, contg. (A) 100 pts. wt. recycled polyolefin or polystyrene (PS), 5-100 pts. wt. recycled thermoset contg. crosslinked plastic and reinforcing fibres, (C) 0-40 wt. % acid and/or ester-gp. contg. ethylene copolymer and (D) 0-50 wt. % normal additives. Also claimed is a process for producing (I), by melting (A) in an extruder, opt. with (C) adding pulverised (B) and opt. (D) and homogenising the mixt. (A) is pref. scrap LDPE film, or scrap film or mouldings based on HDPE, PP or PS. (B) is crushed SMC or BMC scrap, pref. contg. 20-80 wt. % crosslinked UP resin, 10-40 wt. % fibre (pref. glass fibre) and 0-70 wt. % filler (pref. chalk) and consisting of plastic-coated fibres or fibre bundles more than 0.5mm long. (I) are antistatic materials contg. 4-40 wt. % carbon black as additive (D), or electrically conducting materials for electromagnetic screening, contg. 3-30 wt. % metallic fibres as (D).     Abstract: Curable, thickened moulding materials, contain the following components: (A) 100 pts.wt. vinyl ester (urethane) resin; (B) 0-80 pts.wt. unsatd. polyester resin compatible with (A); (C) 0.1-25 pts.wt. thickening agent; (D) 0.1-10 pts.wt. basic metal cpd. thickener; (E) 0.01-5 pts.wt. polymerisation initiator that breaks up into radicals above 50 deg.C; (F) 0-400 pts.wt. reinforcing fibres and/or fillers; and (G) opt. additional additives. (C) comprises a hemiester of an polyether polyol (mixt.) of formula (Ca) and a dicarboxylic acid anhydride; A(-R-O)x-OHy (Ca) A = polyol or polyamine with 3-6 functional gps.; R = 2-4C alkylenyl; x = 1-100; and y = 3-6. Also claimed are (i) the prepn. of the materials by mixing components (A),(B),(C),(E),(F) and (G), adding (D) at a temp. less than 50 deg C to commence thickening and opt. applying the runny material to reinforcing fibres, and then terminating thickening opt. by heating, and (ii) use of the materials for the prepn. of shaped articles by (injection) press moulding, injection moulding or deep drawing and then curing at temps. greater than 50 (80-200) deg C.

    Abstract: Recycled plastic moulding material (I) contains (A) 100 pts. wt. recycled polyamide, (B) 5-100 pts. wt. recycled thermoset contg. crosslinked plastic and reinforcing fibres, (C) 0-40 pts. wt. acid gp.- and/or diene gp.- and/or ester gp.-contg. ethylene copolymer and (D) 0-60 pts. wt. normal additives for plastic mixts. Prodn. of (I) comprises melting opt. pulverised (A), opt. with (C), in an extruder, adding pulverised (B) (opt. together with D), homogenising the mixt. and extruding. Pref., (B) contains 20-80 wt.% thermoset, pref. crosslinked UP resin, 10-40 wt.% fibres, pref. glass fibres and 0-70 wt.% filler, pref. chalk. Pref. (B) is used in the form of plastic-coated fibres or fibre bundles with mean length 0.2-1.0 mm, or finely-ground particles with mean dia. 20-100 microns. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for the prodn. of tubes, profiles, sheet and injection mouldings (claimed). The mechanical properties of recycled polyamide are improved by addn. of recycled reinforced thermoset (B), so that the mixt. can be moulded to give prods. with adequate mechanical properties, esp. rigidity and strength.
