    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a storage material sufficiently satisfy high storage ability and a request for a starting temp. of desulfurization by dispersing magnesium oxide in the storage material in such a form that the magnesium oxide is present in a stoichiometrically excess amt., the molar ratio of the magnesium oxide to aluminum oxide is more than a prescribed value and the magnesium oxide is highly homogeneously dispersed in the material. SOLUTION: This storage material disperses magnesium oxide which is present in a stoichiometrically excess amt., uniformly in Mg/Al-spinel and stabilizes its specific surface area even when the material is used at a high temp. In this purpose, the molar ratio of the magnesium oxide to aluminum oxide is required to be at least 1.1:1. Then, sulfur oxides are stored in the form of magnesium sulfate by the reaction with the substantially excess amt. of the magnesium oxide. Or, the storage material has good resistance against ageing, which is advantageously attributed to the reaction of the sulfur oxides with the highly dispersed magnesium oxide. Thereby, the supporting structure having the high surface area of the material can be protected from a fracture due to the reaction of a waste gas with the sulfur oxides.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a producing method of a catalyst in which dispersion with high dispensability of a catalytic component on a carrier is maintained and use of expensive processes of drying and calcining are avoided. SOLUTION: A powder mixture comprising a specified particulate material is impregnated by a pore volume impregnation method by using a soln. of a precursor compd. of th catalytic component so as to adsorb th precursor compd. on at least the particulate material. The impregnated powder mixture is used to prepare an aq. coating dispersion liquid, and the obtd. dispersion liquid is applied on a carrier, dried and calcined. Therefore, the catalyst can be produced at a low cost and desorption of the catalytic component from the carrier material can be avoided at the time when the carrier material is dispersed to prepare the coating dispersion liquid.

    Abstract: In the new method, a dispersed coating is applied to flow channel walls in monolithic disc-shaped catalyst substrates. The substrates are of generally cylindrical section, penetrated by flow channels, and are coated by a dispersion of fine particulate inorganic materials and/or their precursors. The improvement is coating by injection or spraying on the end faces of the substrate. The finely-divided material is a catalytic composition, a catalyst precursor; or an ab- or ad-sorbent material. Preferably, the substrate is partially covered during spraying. Coatings of differing composition are sprayed from both end faces, at least one being a catalyst. Multilayers are applied, each layer of the same or of differing composition, at least one being a catalyst. The device so formed is used for exhaust (or waste) gas cleaning.

    Abstract: A monolithic catalyst contains a catalytically active coating on an inert, gas-permeable carrier having two front faces for the inlet and outlet of the waste gas. The coating contains a high surface area carrier material and catalytically active components and optional promoters. The carrier is reinforced on the inlet side of the exhaust gas from the front surface up to depth, which comprises up to twenty faces of the cell cross-section, by applying one or more inorganic materials to increase the mechanical stability. Production of the catalyst is also claimed.
