For CTAB surface areas of (A) 200-250, (B) 250-3300, (C) 300-400 m /g, the Hg consumption is (A) 0.27-0.49, (B) 0.35-0.50, (C) 0.32-0.42 ml/g for 10-20 nm pores; (A) 0.22-0.32, (B) 0.15-0.30, (C) 0.17-0.22 ml/g for 20-30 nm pores; (A) 0.15-0.21, (B) 0.12-0.17, (C) 0.12-0.15 ml/g for 30-40 nm pores; (A) 0.11-0.16, (B) 0.09-0.12, (C) 0.08-0.11 ml/g for 40-50 nm pores; and (A) 0.08-0.12, (B) 0.06-0.10, (C) 0.06-0.09 ml/g for 50-60 nm pores. Also claimed are vulcanisable rubber blends contg. 5-100, esp. 15-60 phr (I); and rubber blends and/or vulcanisates contg. opt. silane-modified (I).

Abstract: A method of granulating resorcinol/silica mixtures which comprises transporting a mixture of resorcinol and precipitated silica by conveyor worms to two pressing rollers whose shafts are attached vertically above one another and whose contact pressure can be varied, compacting said mixture between said rollers, breaking up the compacted mixture with a cake breaker to obtain a granulate with minimum grain size and separating the remaining dusty portion of said mixture. The mixtures can be added to vulcanizable rubber to provide improved adhesion to rubber reinforcements.

Abstract: A process for turning powdered rubber into industrial products, comprises mixing the powder with heat tolerant additives. The composition is then mixed intensely to provide mechanical heat, before being cooled and extruded. The rubber and certain additives are subjected to intense dispersive mixing so the particles warm mechanically and are in a plastified state. The viscous material is then cooled, and at the end of the cooling phase, heat sensitive additives and/or wetting chemicals are added. The mixture is then supplied to a mixing zone where it is further mixed. The material is worked in a twin worm extruder (1), which has a kneading element in a kneading section (5).

Abstract: A mixture (I) of organosilane polysulphides (II) of formula (RO)3Si(CH2)xS-Sz-S(CH2)xSi(OR)3 (1) is new. The mixture contains 20 wt.% or less (1) when z = 2-6 and less than 80 wt.% (1) when z = 0. In (1), R = 1-8C alkyl, preferably 1-3C alkyl; x = 1-8; and z = 0-6. Also claimed are (i) preparation of sulphur, sulphur donor and accelerator vulcanised rubber mixtures containing one or more natural or man-made rubber, silicate, fillers, optionally carbon black and other components, the rubber, fillers, carbon black, optionally plasticiser, anti-oxidants, activators and (I) being mixed at 160-200 degrees C for 3-15 minutes followed by the addition of vulcanisation agents at 60-120 degrees C and mixing for a further 2-10 minutes to yield sheet or strips; (ii) tyre tread compounds with a high silicic acid content containing 4-10 parts weight (pts. wt.) (I) to 100 pts. wt. filler.
