Abstract: An iron blue pigment ("DIN 55 906") is prepared by precipitating white paste and then oxidizing the white paste. Alkali metal ions such as sodium ions and potassium ions, cyanide or hexacyanoferrate(II) ions, and iron(II) ions are used as starting materials. The iron blue pigment of the present invention contains potassium in an amount of between 7.0 and 9.0% by weight, preferably between 7.6 and 9.0% by weight, sodium in an amount of between 0.5 and 2.0% by weight, preferably between 0.5 and 1.5% by weight, has a tinting strength, when tested in accordance with "DIN 53 204" and "DIN 53 234" exceeding the tinting strength of "Vosscnblau 705", the German colour standard for iron blue pigments, by between 5 and 15%, and has colour differences (determined in accordance with "DIN 53 204" and "DIN 53 239" in combination with "DIN 6174" with "Vossenblau 705" as standard) which are: .DELTA.L : - 0.7 to -1.5 .DELTA.a : - 0.5 to +0.3 .DELTA.b : - 0.6 to -2.3 .DELTA.C : + 0.5 to +2.0 To save potassium ions in the preparation of iron blue pigments of the present invention the precipitation of white paste is effected in two phases. The alkali metal ions which are used in the precipitation of white paste are potassium ions used in the first phase and sodium ions used in the second phase. The soluble byproducts of the reaction are then removed, potassium salts are added, whereupon, the white pulp is aged and oxidised, in a conventional manner, and recovered as an iron blue pigment. The iron blue pigment can be used as a pigment in the preparation of printing inks, paints, and enamels, and as a colourant in fungicides.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for producing a sprayable highly concentrated precipitating silica suspension which has a low grit content and contains 12%, preferably more than 18% of solids, which comprises continuously feeding a silica filter cake and a dispersing agent by means of feed members into a dissolver tank while maintaining a pH value of not more than 4, and stirring the mixture in said tank by means of a stirring dissolver, the ratio of the tank diameter to the diameter of the stirring dissolver being 3:1, the maximum ratio of dissolver tank diameter to height of filling of the tank being 1:2, and at least 1.5 to 2 kg of silica suspension being present in the tank per 1 kg of silica filter cake fed therein, said stirring being carried out by the dissolver at a peripheral speed of 20 to 30 metres per second, the silica filter cake and dispersing agent being withdrawn from a zone of maximum turbulence by a separating member or a mixer.

Abstract: Iron blue pigment (DIN 55 906) is produced by white paste precipitation and subsequent oxidation of the white paste. Alakli or alkali metal ions i.e. sodium and potassium ions, cyanide or complex iron cyanide ions and iron ions are used as raw materials. The iron blue pigment according to the invention is characterized by a potassium content of 0.5-4.5% by weight, preferably 0.5-2.0% by weight, a sodium content of 0.2-1.0% by weight, an ammonium content of 2.0-4.5% by weight, preferably 3.0-4.5% by weight, a coloring power in accordance with DIN 53 204 and DIN 53 234 of 5-15% above the Vossen Blue 705 Standard and the following color intervals (determined in accordance with DIN 53 204 and DIN 53 234 in conjunction with DIN 6174, in relation to Vossen Blue 705 as standard): DELTA L: -0.7 to -1.5 DELTA a: -0.5 to 1.5 DELTA b: -0.6 to -2.3 DELTA C: +0.5 to 2.0 In order to save potassium ions, the white paste precipitation of the iron blue pigment according to the invention is carried out in two phases, potassium ions being used as alkali ions in the first phase and sodium ions in the second phase. After removal of the reaction salts and addition of ammonium salts, the white paste suspension thus obtained is aged and subsequently oxidized to iron blue pigment by known methods. The iron blue pigment can be used as a pigment for the production of printing inks, colored paints, colored varnishes and as coloring agents for fungicides.
