The present invention relates to a biocidal composition, designed for the generation of chlorine dioxide, comprising at least one iodo-compound having at least one iodine atom and a source of chlorite ions. The molar ration of chlorite ions to iodine atoms is 2 or greater. The composition finds use in a variety of applications including methods of cleaning, deodorizing, and disinfecting various surfaces.
Abstract:
A pre-spotting or pre-treating composition for a soiled laundry item comprises hydrophillic ethoxylate surfactant with less than two moles of ethylene oxide or a or blend thereof with at leat one further surfactant composition to give a HLB value of about 7-12. The treatment composition can be used in a liquid or solid form and can be applied to individual laundry items in the form of a solid stick or liquid spray prior to introduction to the laundry machine. Laundry items can also be contacted in the laundry machine with the pre-spot or pre-treatment composition in the form of an aqueous presoak, preflush, prewash, or other step prior to the cleaning step.

Zinc crosslinked acrylic dispersions can initiate hardening of multicomponent polyurethane coatings based on polyester polyols or polyurethane polyols and decrease the coating tack-free time. Zinc carbonates and ultrafine zinc oxide can initiate hardening of multicomponent polyurethane coatings and decrease the coating tack-free time. The decreased tack-free times facilitate earlier application of additional polyurethane layers and earlier return of a coated article to service, and can provide improved floor finishes.

A floor finish is provided including a film former, a lightness inducing agent, and a diluent. The floor finish composition includes a film former, a lightness inducing agent, and a diluent, with the lightness inducing agent being included in an amount sufficient for the composition to provide, when evaluated using a hardened finish having a thickness of about 0.005 mm on a LENETA Form 5C Opacity chart and a MINISCAN XE Plus color spectrophotometer having 45° illumination and a 0° viewing geometry (a) an increased lightness value L* on the black portion of the chart and (b) a contrast ratio (CR080) less than about 0.7 when evaluated on the black and white portions of the chart. Laminates, methods for treating a floor, and kits are also provided.

A floor finish stripper or scrub and recoat composition includes a sparingly water-soluble floor finish solvent, water, an acid in an amount sufficient to provide a homogenous aqueous liquid phase during shaking, and sufficient organic amine so that the composition has a pH of about 2 to about 11 and the composition is not corrosive to skin. The acid is at least one of (A) a C10 aliphatic acid, and (B) a sulfonic acid, sulfate acid, phosphonic acid, phosphate acid, or aromatic acid coupler.

A method for antimicrobial treatment comprising applying to microbes a composition containing a diluting solvent (e.g., water), an antimicrobially-active solvent having a density different from the density of the diluting solvent, and an optional cosolvent, surfactant, or additional antimicrobial agent, wherein the amount of antimicrobially-active solvent or additional antimi-crobial agent is sufficiently high and the amount of cosolvent or surfactant is sufficiently low so that the composition will provide greater than a 1-log order reduction in the population of bacteria or spores of Bacillus cereus within 10 seconds at 60 .degree.C. Preferred methods of the invention employ compositions containing an additional antimicrobial agent such as peroxyacetic acid. Compositions for use in the method can be prepared as concentrates, and used full strengt h or in diluted form.

The invention relates to microemulsion compositions containing water, a mixture of nonionic surfactants, and oil. The microemulsion provides for the removal of hydrophobic particularly oily soils from a variety of substrates. The compositions can be used for hard surface, laundry cleaning, hand washing, and car washin g. Typical hydrophobic soils are oily based soils derived from petroleum oils or natural fats and oils also containing a significant proportion of particulate soils such as carbon, common dirt and other non-water soluble typically hydrophobic soil particulate. The microemulsion composition can include a splitting agent such as an amphoteric surfactant for controlling the conditions under which the microemulsion will split.
