    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a spherical spacer at a specified position, to suppress production of foams at a low temperature and to obtain a liquid crystal display device equipped with the spacer having resistance to local load, by controlling the hardness (DH) of the spacer consisting of a photosensitive resin for regulating the cell gap between substrates to a specified range. SOLUTION: The device comprises an array substrate 12 and a color filter substrate 14 disposed facing each other, a spacer 18 consisting of a photosensitive resin to regulate the cell gap 16 between the substrates, and a liquid crystal 20. As for the spacer 18, a photosensitive resin satisfying the conditions that the hardness (DH) obtained by the formula of DH=K×Pmax/hmax2 ranges 26 to 30 is used. In the formula, DH is the hardness (kgf/mm2), Pmax is the maximum load (kgf), hmax is the maximum displacement (mm) as the sum of the elastic deformation and plastic deformation, and K is a constant intrinsic to the device obtd. from the displacement of the indenter.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the function of a color filter having excellent color purity and a uniform liquid crystal orienting function to one film by forming the org. film of the liquid crystal display device of polyimide having a specific repeating unit. CONSTITUTION:This device has the film commonly having the function of an orienting layer which regulates the orientation of liquid crystal molecules and the function of the color filter. The film has the repeating unit expressed by any one among the formula I, II and III. Namely, the polyimide is obtd. by the condensation polymn. reaction of a diamine component and acid anhydride component. More specifically, both are subjected to a ring opening polyaddition reaction in a solvent to form a polyimide precursor. A dye is dispersed into this precursor and the dispersion is applied on a glass substrate for a liquid crystal display element and is dried and heat treated. The org. film which commonly has the functions of the color filter having the repeating unit and the liquid crystal orienting film is formed in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the quality of a display image deteriorated by a reverse tilt by constituting a light shielding layer formed on the edge of an aperture arranged on the upstream of a rubbing direction of a specific thin light shielding layer and a specific thick light shielding layer. CONSTITUTION: A light shielding layer on the edge of a display area on the upstream of the rubbing direction is formed on the peripheral edge of a display electrode 3 and constituted of a thin light shielding layer 5 for restricting the edge 6 of an aperture and a thick black photoresist layer, i.e., a black photosensitive organic material layer 4 positioning its edge 7 on the layer 5. An edge 6 is separated from the edge 7 by a distance L and the layer 5 should be formed on the edge of the aperture existing on the upstream of the rubbing direction in order to solve a reverse tilt. Since it is preferable that all liquid crystal display cells have the same numerical aperture, the formation of a thin light shielding layer 5 on the downstream of the rubbing direction is also preferable. The numerical aperture means the rate of a light passing area to the edge area of the liquid crystal display cell.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To manufacture a color filter that is provided with general performance as a color filter and enables a high contrast display by using a reaction product of a binder polymer and a reactive dye with each other as a component of the color filter. CONSTITUTION: This color filter has at least one color layer formed from a photosensitive composition contg. a reaction product of a binder polymer and a reactive dye with each other. The binder polymer is a linear organic polymer which contains functional groups such as hydrogen radicals or amino or amide groups in its side chains in an amount sufficient to subject the reactive dye to addition reaction with the binder and is compatible with its monomer (s). For example, a homopolymer or copolymer of hydroxyethyl acrylate, aminoethyl acrylate or acrylamide, or a partially esterified compound of an acid anhydride polymer such as maleic anhydride copolymer or itaconic anhydride copolymer with glycol or aminoglycol, or the like, is useful as this binder polymer. The color filter is most appropriately used for a TFF-LCD (thin film transistor liquid crystal device) which is particularly required to provide a high contrast display and has a gradation display function.
