    Abstract: AUTOMATIC TEST SAMPLE HANDLING SYSTEM An automatic handling system selectively conveys test samples to a test probe for analysis by an instrument. The test samples are contained in sample containers. A magazine contains sampler holders each of which contains sample containers. A transport system conveys the magazine so that the holders successively pass through an extraction station from where the holders can be taken from the magazine and placed back therein. The holders upon extraction are then conveyed past a test probe so that individual samples can be selectively presented to the probe.

    Abstract: SPECTROPHOTOMETER FOR DUAL MODE FLUORESCENCE ANALYSIS A sprectrophotometer includes a wide band radiant energy source and a detector for providing an output signal proportional to the intensity of the radiant energy received thereby. A light pipe system is divided into a reference path and a sample path. Such system coacts with a rotary assembly having a variable monochromatic filter located diametrically opposite to an opening through which radiant energy can freely pass. The remaining portions of the rotary assembly are opaque so that as the assembly turns, the sample and reference paths are serially energized by monochromatic energy and then by polychoromatic energy. The sample path includes a sample illumination and collection system for illuminating a test sample and collecting the light reflected therefrom. The resultant output of the detector can be analyzed to determine the amount of fluorescence.

    Abstract: This monochromator is made up of a number of discrete narrow band interference filters mounted on a drum which rotates with respect to a light beam so that as the light beam passes through each of the filter the angle of incidence of the light beam changes with respect to the filter. Each of the filters is for a different normal wavelength of peak transmission so that spectral analysis of the light source can be obtained.

    Abstract: An improved sample holder for a spectrophotometer includes a stationary base that forms a cylindrical cavity and supports a fiber optic head assembly over the cavity for analyzing the color of a sample that is positioned adjacent the base and under the cavity. The fiber optic head assembly covers the top of the cavity and the area of the sample that is to be color analyzed is not visible to an operator of the spectrophotometer. A shutter mechanism is arranged to be moved in an opening in the base between a closed position in which the shutter forms part of the cylindrical wall of the aperture and an open position in which the opening in the base permits an operator to view the sample. A prism is provided to raise the viewing position of the operator to the normal position of the operator.
