Abstract: An apparatus, program product and method incorporate embedded alias information into a document for use in automatically generating aliases (e.g., bookmarks, favorites, shortcuts, etc.) in a computer environment. The embedded alias information may incorporate both an identification of a predetermined storage location and an alias description to be associate d therewith, such that, during generation of an alias, both the location and the description for the alias are obtained from the embedded alias information. The embedded alias information may also incorporate a condition associated with a predetermined storage location, in addition to or in lieu of an identification of the actual predetermined storage location, such that, during generation of an alias, the condition may be tested so that the alias will be generated only upon the condition being met . The embedded alias information may also incorporate an executable program to further customize or enhance the generation of aliases.

Abstract: A web server comprising multiple computer systems includes at least one system which maintains a database of redundant session-persistent data on behalf of other systems which process HTTP session workloads for clients. A session analyzer extracts information from this redundancy database to characterize HTTP session workloads. Preferably, session workloads are processed by middleware comprising an application server and one or more applications. The application server maintains session-persistent data as data objects, and automatically updates the database of redundant data which responses are transmitted to a clients. The session analyzer independently extracts data from the redundant database to characterize the session workloads. Optionally, the analyzer includes an intelligent inferencing function which can make tuning recommendations from the extracted data.

Abstract: An apparatus, program product, and method rely on user interaction in the ordering search results returned by a search engine. Each of a plurality of records in a database is associated with a user feedback parameter that is used in ordering the records identified in a result set generated in response to a search request. The user feedback parameter for a given record may be selectively updated in response to detecting multiple accesses thereto by a user and/or in response to detecting that the record is the most recently accessed record in the result set. In addition, the user feedback parameter for a given record may be configured with a plurality of weights that are respectively associated with particular keywords, such that ordering of the records in a result set can utilize only those weights that are associated with keywords that match a particular search request. Furthermore, a search request data structure may be utilized to store a plurality of search request records, each including a search request identifier identifying a unique combination of keywords, and a result set identifier identifying a subset of a plurality of records in a database that match the unique combination of keywords. The search request data structure may be accessed in response to a search request tolocate a search request record including a search request identifier that matches the keywords provided in the search request, with a result set generated that identifies the subset of records identified in the result set identifier in the located search request record.

Abstract: A method to trace a variable or other expression through a computer program is disclosed. A user determines the variable and the conditions upon which activity of the variable will be monitored. As a result of the invention, every time that variable is referenced in a memory operation or other activity by the program and the conditions set forth by the user ar e satisfied, the state of that variable is saved as a snapshot without interrupting or stopping execution o f the program. The snapshots are accumulated in a history table. The history table can be retrieved and the state of the variable in any given snapshot can be restored. Other variables and expressions can be attached to the trigger variable and the states of these other variables at the time of the activity of the trigger variable may also be saved in the snapshot. The method may be incorporated into a program as a tracing device or a program product separate from the logical processing device executing the program.

Abstract: A computer displays information in a web page according to geographical information. In a first embodiment, a new HTML tag is defined that allows specifying a geographical location or region. A geographical location specification is set in the web browser, whi ch then displays the web page to the user according to the geographical location specification input by the user. Note that the geographical location may be set manually by a user specifying geographical location or region by inputting information in the computer, such as city, state, zip code, area code, or by pointing to a location on a map. In addition, the geographical region may be set automatically by an internal global positioning system (GPS) detector that detects the geographical location of the computer. In a second embodiment, a geographical location specification is set in the web browser, and this location information is then transmitted to a web server along with a reques t for a web page. The web server then renders a web page that is customized according to the transmitted geographical location specification. As in the first embodiment, the location may be set manually by a user, or may be set automatically using an internal GPS detector in the computer.

Abstract: A portable phone is equipped with a position detector that detects the geographical position of the portable phone, and the function of the phone can be changed according to its geographical position. One or more "regions" may be defined by the user of the portable phone, and the ring parameters for each region may be set independently of the other regions. In this manner a phone in accordance with the preferred embodiments may ring with one tone at home, ring with a different tone at work, ring with a louder volume when on a job site, not ring at all when in church, and ring with a vibration when at the theatre. In addition, the preferred embodiments include a dialler that allows selecting a contact from a text list, and that dials a number that depends on the geographical position of the portable phone, or that dials a number and sends with the call the geographical position of the portable phone. The preferred embodiments further allow assigning a telephone number to a defined geographical region, and ringing the portable phone only when within the geographical region that corresponds to the phone number.
