Abstract:
Implementation of communication in a multi-protocol wireless network communication network is performed according to protocols independently selected for forward and reverse communication links. A communication request is made according to predetermined criteria, and a communication link is established responsive to the request. A determination is made of a preferred communication protocol in at least one direction (forward or reverse link). The communication link is established for that direction in accordance with the preferred communication protocol while controlling communication in the other direction independently.
Abstract:
Data is to be transmitted in a code division multiple access communication system. A channel response is provided as a channel response matrix H approximating a channel that the data will experience after transmission. The data is spread and the spread data is processed with the channel response matrix H. The spread and processed data is transmitted. The data is received and recovered from the transmitted spread and processed data.
Abstract:
The invention reduces transient peaks in signals transmitted in CDMA communication systems. A plurality of spread spectrum data signals are combined into a combined signal having fluctuating power level corresponding to the combination of the data signals. The combined signal is modulated to produce an RF signal for transmission. The average power of the combined signal is measured over a selected time period. The combined signal power level is adaptively limited to a calculated power level based at least in part on the measured power.
Abstract:
A method for use in a code division multiple access (CDMA) subscriber unit, the method comprising receiving first data transmitted from a first base station; selecting a second base station to transmit second data to the CDMA subscriber unit; transmitting a signal to the second base station, wherein the signal designates the second base station, instead of the first base station, to transmit the second data to the CDMA subscriber unit; receiving a power command from the first base station after transmitting the signal; and adjusting an output power of the CDMA subscriber unit in response to the power command after the second base station is selected.
Abstract:
The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for implementing space frequency block coding (SFBC) in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication system. The present invention is applicable to both a closed loop mode and an open loop mode. In the closed mode, power loading and eigen-beamforming are performed based on channel state information (CSI). A channel coded data stream is multiplexed into two or more data streams. Power loading is performed based on the CSI on each of the multiplexed data streams. SFBC encoding is preformed on the data streams for each of the paired subcarriers. Then, eigen-beamforming is performed based on the CSI to distribute eigenbemas to multiple transmit antennas. The power loading may be performed on two or more SFBC encoding blocks or on each eigenmodes. Additionally, the power loading may be performed across the subcarriers or subcarrier groups for weak eigenmodes.
Abstract:
The invention provides a spread spectrum communication system for maintaining an initial transmit power level of a communication station during periods of inactivity. The system comprises a first station (501) and a second station (502), the initial transmit power level of which is maintained, wherein the first station generates an automatic power control signal by comparing a measured noise power level in a communication channel and an estimated system transmit power level and the second station occasionally transmits a spread spectrum signal whilst in an inactive state and receives the automatic power control signal to adjust an initial transmit power level thereof.
Abstract:
A GLOBAL PILOT AND UNWANTED TRAFFIC SIGNAL CANCELLER (61)FOR A SPREAD SPECTRUM COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (19) RECEIVER THAT REDUCES THEIR CONTRIBUTIVE NOISE EFFECTS. THE PRESENT INVENTION EFFECTIVELY CANCELS THE GLOBAL PILOT AND UNWANTED, ACTIVE TRAFFIC SIGNALS PRIOR TO DECODING A DESIRED TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE RECEIVER (63). THE SYSTEM AND METHOD DECREASES THE BIT ERROR RATE (BER) YIELDING AN INCREASED SIGNAL-TO-NOISE RATIO.
Abstract:
A CDMA wireless digital communication system which supports all types of voice and data communications while utilizing the minimum amount of bandwidth for the particular application. The system efficiently allocates ISDN bandwidth on demand by a subscriber. Upon initialization of the subscriber unit, the system establishes a channel and generates the necessary spreading codes to support the highest capacity channel desired by the subscriber unit. Portions of the communication spectrum bandwidth are not reserved until actually required by the subscriber unit. Since the call setpup is performed at the beginning of a call from that subscriber unit, including the assignment of spreading codes, a subscriber unit can quickly gain access to the portion of the spectrum that is required to support the particular application.
Abstract:
A method for facilitating inter-system handover by a multi-mode wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is disclosed. The WTRU is capable of communicating in multiple wireless communication systems using different wireless communication protocols. A first wireless communication system provides a hot spot within the coverage area of a second wireless communication system. A base station in a cell in the second wireless communication system generates and transmits a message to inform the WTRU of the existence of the hot spot located in the vicinity of the cell. The WTRU receives the message and is therefore informed of the existence of the hot spot in the vicinity of the cell.
