Abstract:
This invention relates to an acidic non-irritating lotion, cream or ointment for rejuvenating skin and hair which comprises a micronized, homogenized hydrogen of a cross-linked N-vinyl lactam polymer and an organic rejuvenating agent selected from the group consisting of pyruvic acid, a mono- or poly- carboxylated C1 to C20 hydrocarbon optionally substituted with from 1 to 3 hydroxy groups and ammonium and alkali metal salts of said acids and mixtures thereof including mixtures of the acids and/or said salts. The invention also relates to a cross-linked N-vinyl lactam polymer in the form of a stable, homogenized flowable hydrogel having microparticles which can be passed through a screen of between about 40 and about 350 mesh size and to the process for the preparation of the homogenized gel and to its use as a hair and skin conditioner or as a carrier for a cosmetically or pharmaceutically active substance.
Abstract:
Crosslinkable, functional polymers of vinylpyrrolidone and an aminoalkyl acrylamide, or aminoalkene, or hydroxyalkene, are made herein, which can be crosslinked to provide aqueous gels for use in many pharmaceutical applications.
Abstract:
What is provided herein is a stabilized aqueous solution of a C1-C5 alkyl vinyl ether and maleic acid copolymer which includes about 100 to 1,000 ppm of (1) an additive mixture of (a) about 30-70 % by weight of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid EDTA and (b) about 30-70 % by weight of a secondary additive which is an organic antioxidant and/or free radical scavenger selected from t-butylhydroquinone, propyl gallate and N,N-diethylhydroxylamine; or (2) 10-500 ppm of an inorganic reducing agent such as sulfur dioxide and salts derived from sulfur dioxide and alkali metals such as sodium or potassium bisulfite, sodium or potassium metabisulfite, sodium or potassium thiosulfite, or sodium or potassium sulfite, said stabilized solution exhibiting a retention of at least about 85-90 % of its original viscosity after 3 months.
Abstract:
Abstract:
What is described herein are conditioning/styling tetrapolymers of vinyl caprolactam (VCL), vinylpyrrolidone (VP), dimethylaminopropyl methacrylamide (DMAPMA) and C8-C24 alkyl quaternized dimethylaminopropyl (meth)acrylamide or methacrylic acid quaternized monomers (QDMAPMA), in a defined compositional range. Hair and skin care compositions which include these tetrapolymers exhibit advantageous low tackiness and high humidity resistance.
Abstract:
A composition is provided herein for preventing or retarding the formation of gas hydrates or for reducing the tendency of gas hydrates to agglomerate, during the transport of a fluid comprising water and a hydrocarbon, through a conduit. The composition is a homopolymer of vinyl caprolactam having the low molecular weight in the range of 500 to 2500, or copolymers thereof, in a defined solvent. Such homopolymers and copolymers preferably are made and applied in the defined solvent, which, most preferably, is a glycol ether such as 2-butoxyethanol.
Abstract:
A non-aqueous, heterogeneous polymerization process comprises heating a reaction mixture of about 5-70 %, preferably 10-30 %, by weight, of a vinyl monomer in an oil as solvent, and a free radical initiator, optionally in the presence of a crosslinking agent and/or a surfactant, wherein the oil solvent is present in an amount sufficient to keep the resultant polymer in a stirrable state throughout the polymerization. The polymer reaction product is capable of forming a uniform emulsion or gel upon addition of water thereto.
