Selon l'invention, lesdites graisses et huiles ou lesdits esters d'acides gras sont préalablement traités dans une atmosphère d'hydrogène ou d'un mélange d'hydrogène et d'un gaz inerte à une température de 100 à 350degré C pour donner une teneur en soufre des graisses et huiles ou des esters d'acides gras de 0,6 ppm ou moins, en présence d'un catalyseur représenté par la formule (I) suivante: (CF DESSIN DANS BOPI) dans laquelle X représente un élément choisi parmi Fe, Zn et Cr; Y représente un élément choisi parmi Al, Si et Ti; x et y représentent chacun une proportion atomique rapportée à la proportion de Cu prise égale à 1, pourvu que x ait une valeur de 0,02 à 2,4 et y une valeur de 0 à 2,0; et z est la proportion d'oxygène satisfaisant les conditions de valences des éléments représentés par X et Y. Applications: fabrication d'alcools de haute pureté avec un bon rendement par réduction.

Abstract: Método para producir un alcohol a partir de un ácido carboxílico como materia prima, que comprende hidrogenar un ácido carboxílico con un catalizador, en el que el catalizador comprende metal de Co como componente esencial y uno o más elementos seleccionados del grupo que consiste en Zr, Y, La, Ce, Si, Al, Sc, V y Mo como primer componente de cocatalizador, y tiene el 20% o más de fase cúbica en la fase de cristal del metal de Co, en el que el catalizador es un catalizador reducido y tiene una película de óxido formada sobre la superficie para estabilizar el catalizador después de la reducción, en el que la película de óxido se forma colocando el catalizador en un flujo de un gas inerte que contiene del 0,1 al 5% en volumen de oxígeno durante de 1 a 24 horas a de 0 a 200ºC, y en el que el porcentaje de la fase cúbica en la fase de cristal del metal de Co se determina a partir de la razón de la intensidad del primer pico de la fase cúbica Ic con respecto a la intensidad del primer pico de la fase hexagonal Ih en un espectro de difracción de rayos X de cristal y se calcula mediante la siguiente fórmula (1): porcentaje de la fase cúbica [%] = 100 x Ic / (Ic + Ih).

A process for producing an alcohols using desulfurized fats and oils or fatty acid esters is also disclosed. According to the process for producing an alcohol of the present invention, an alcohol of a high purity and good qualities can efficiently and effectively be produced.
