Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the tracking method of a magnetic tape capable of tracking without reducing the area of a data area. SOLUTION: At least two pairs of electrodes are arranged so that a pair of electrodes is opposed each other to a conductive back coat layer 14 of the magnetic tape 10, and one electrode of each pair is arranged so as to abut always on the back coat layer 14 during the running of the magnetic tape 10, and also another electrode of each pair is arranged so as to position at the outer side of a tape edge of the magnetic tape 10 in the normal running state of the magnetic tape 10 and also at the different side of the left/right tape edges. Then, in this tracking method of magnetic tape the tracking operation is performed in such a manner that an electrical signal is produced by the electrical continuity generated between the electrodes of each pair through the back coat layer 14 when the fluctuation of the running magnetic tape 10 occurs in the breadthwise direction, and based on this electrical signal, the displacement of the magnetic head is corrected or the fluctuation of the magnetic tape 10 in the breadthwise direction is corrected.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for oral cavity excellent in retainability in oral cavity.
SOLUTION: The composition for oral cavity comprises alginic acid or its salt, xanthan gum and κ-carrageenan. In the composition, mass ratio of the alginic acid or its salt to κ-carrageenan is not smaller than 1 and water content thereof is 5-35 mass% and when diluting the composition to 1.5 times with an artificial saliva containing a potassium ion and calcium ion and carrying out tensile strength test of the diluted composition by using a force gauge, tensile strength of the composition becomes 0.5-2N.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a medium in which electromagnetic conversion characteristics and low dropout and excellent travelling property and durability can be compatible on a high level by preparing the particle diameter of nonmagnetic particles in which the specified amt. of aluminum is incorporated into fine particles having specified Mohs' hardness and incorporating the obtd. nonmagnetic particles into a magnetic layer on the uppermost layer. SOLUTION: A lower layer is formed on one surface of a supporting body, an upper magnetic layer as the uppermost layer is formed adjacent to the lower layer and further, a back coating layer is formed on the other surface of the supporting body. The magnetic layer as the upper layer is formed in the state that ferromagnetic powder and nonmagnetic particles are dispersed in a binder. The nonmagnetic particles have 10 to 60 nm particle size and are prepared by incorporating 2 to 40 atom% aluminum into fine particles having >3 Mohs' hardness. Especially, by depositing alumina or the like so as to cover the fine particle surface, the obtd. particles have a function as an abrasive material. The upper limit of hardness of a material having high Mohs' hardness such as alumina is practically about 6.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having better surface smoothness and electromagnetic conversion characteristics by specifying a difference between the pH of ferromagnetic powder incorporated into a magnetic film and the pH of the magnetic powder or non-magnetic powder incorporated in an intermediate layer to a prescribed value or below. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium 1 includes a base 2, the intermediate layer 3 disposed thereon, the magnetic layer 4 disposed on the layer 3 and a back coating layer 5 disposed on the rear surface of the base 2. The difference from the pH of the magnetic powder incorporated into the magnetic layer 4 of this magnetic recording medium is =7 is preferable and the powder having 8 to 11 is more preferable in terms of the improvement of the corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance of the coating film. The same holds true of the magnetic or non-magnetic powder to be incorporated into the intermediate layer 3.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve durability and electromagnetic conversion characteristics by treating the surfaces of powder components, such as magnetic powder, forming a magnetic layer with a specific polyether compd. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic recording medium is constituted by providing the magnetic layer formed by dispersing the powder components, such as magnetic powder, into a binder on a nonmagnetic base. At least the surfaces of the magnetic powder in the powder components of such magnetic layer are treated with the polyether having 1000 to 5000 number average mol.wt. and an acid chloride group at both terminals of the molecule. The dispersibility of the powder components including the magnetic powder is improved in this way and the excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics are exhibited.
