Abstract: Aq. conditioning compsn. for human hair comprises (a) at least one salt which releases, in aq. medium, 0.1-5.0 wt.% (based on the total compsn.) of calcium-, magnesium and/or zinc ions; and (b) 0.5-50 wt.% (based on the total compsn.) of at least one cpd. selected from 2-4C alkanediols (and their methyl and ethyl ethers), benzylalcohol, benzyloxyethanol, phenoxyethanol or cinnamic alcohol. The compsn. has a pH or 2.5-7. The compsn. contains enough of (a) to release 0.5-3.0 wt.% of calcium-, magnesium- and zinc cations. The amt. of component (b) is 1-30 wt.%. The compsn. also contains an organic acid, esp. lactic acid, and has a pH of 3-6. USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsn. can be applied as an aq. soln., lotion, emulsion, dispersion, gel or aerosol. It may also be in the form of a two component compsn.. The compsn. has improved conditioning effect and gives hair with good shine, elasticity and volume.

Abstract: The object of the invention is a new isomer mixture of 3-hydroxybutyl monothioglycollate and 3-hydroxy-1-methyl propyl monothioglycollate in a weight proportion of about 1.5 : 1 to 4 : 1, preferably about 2 : 1 to about 3 : 1, comprising less than 5%, preferably less than 2% by wt., of 1,3-butanediol thioglycollate, and its use as the sole or main reducing agent in compositions for permanent waving of human hair. The compositions have reduced smell, good waving properties and an extremely low sensitizing potential on human skin.

SOLUTION: This spray composition is obtained by including (A) 0.05-30 wt.% of microfibers pref. with a fiber length [1] of 0.01-1 mm, fiber diameter [d] of 1-100 μm, and the ratio [1/d] of >=10, (B) 0.05-10 wt.% of a dispersant at 0.01-10 wt. times the component A, and (C) 30-90 wt.% of a propellant; wherein the component A is e.g. animal- or plant-derived natural fiber (regenerated fiber), synthetic fiber, carbon fiber, being pref. silicone-treated; the component B is e.g. silica, alumina, natural or synthetic clay-based mineral; and the component C is e.g. dimethyl ether, propane.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain permanent wave composition excellent in hair waving effect, hair wave sustainability, low-damaging effect on the already injured hair, formulability, low odoriferousness and safety. CONSTITUTION: An aqueous medium is first formulated with 3-50wt.% of a polyalkylene glycol monothioglycolate of the formula (R is ethylene or propylene; (n) is 2-4) (e.g. diethylene glycol monothioglycolate) as reducing agent fol.lowed by 0.1-10wt.% of a known reducing agent (e.g. thioglycolic acid) and 0.5-30wt.% of an infiltration promoter (e.g. ethanol) and then, according as appropriate, other conventional ingredients, thus preparing the objective composition with pH3-11. When this composition is to be used as a 1st agent for permanent wave, the hair is first treated with this composition followed by using, as a 2nd agent, an oxidizing agent solution prepared by formulating an aqueous medium with 0.5-20wt.% of a conventional oxidizing agent to set the hair design. This composition can also be used as a one-formula type setting agent in the form of hair straightening agent and also through making the concentration of the reducing agents lower, etc.

SOLUTION: This polyalkylene glycol monothiolactate of formula I [R is ethylene or propylene; (n) is an integer of 2-4], e.g. diethylene glycol monothiolactate. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting 1mol equiv. thiolactic acid or alkyl thiolactate of formula II (R is H or a 1-4C alkyl) with preferably 1.5-3mol equiv. polyalkylene glycol of formula III at 80-180 deg.C. Water produced at this time is preferably removed. Furthermore, the compound of formula I as a reducing agent in a blended amount of 5-30% is mixed in an aqueous medium and the pH is preferably regulated to 6.5-8 to afford an excellent permanent waving composition.
