Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage of a dielectric inside member caused by the soldering heat. SOLUTION: When a coaxial cable 40 is terminated at a conductive termination member 32 at least one part of which is contained in the dielectric housing 12 of an electric connector, an exposure exposing a metal shield 56 is formed on the coaxial cable 40 by removing an insulating jacket 58. An heat insulation tubular sleeve 60 is inserted between the metal shield 56 and a dielectric inside member 54, and the coaxial cable 40 is arranged on the termination member having grip arms 62a, 62b. The grip arms 62a, 62b are bent so as to engage with an exposure portion without deforming the heat insulation tubular sleeve 60, the metal shield 56 is captured between the dielectric tubular sleeve and the grip arm, and the metal shield 56 is bonded to the grip arms 62a, 62b as protecting the dielectric inside member 54.

Abstract: The connector assembly includes a projection on one shield half between the housing shell engaging end and the rear cable engaging end. A device is provided for defining a pivot region on the other shield half between the housing shell engaging end and the rear cable engaging end interengaging the projection and about which the shield halves pivot relative to one another between the initial and final positions in order to increase the force of engagement between the housing shell engaging ends and the conductive housing shell upon rotating the shield halves between the initial and final positions. Shell engaging members project forward from the housing shell engaging ends of the shield halves and are engageable beneath inwardly projecting lip of the shell. The projection protrudes into an aperture in the other shield half, a base portion of the projection being wider than the width of the aperture.

Abstract: When a contact structure is moved from an initial position to a final position, each of the forwardly extending lead-in portions of the male terminal is effective to gradually and uniformly deflect a respective one of the contact portions of the spring arms. The normal force between the contact portions of the spring arm and the upper and lower surfaces of the male terminal is caused to gradually increase. The lead-in portion of the male terminal has a pair of diverging, non-parallel generally non-deflecting split beams. Inwardly facing, laterally offset, opposing camming portions are adapted to initially engage and gradually deflect the contact portions as the contact structure is moved toward its final position. The gradual and uniform deflection of the contact portions of the spring arms results in a minimal insertion force mating contact structure. The gradual increase in normal force results in a high contact normal force between the male and female terminals. Greater wiping action over a greater length of the conductor is achieved.

Se entenderá que la palabra "terminal" se emplea algunas veces como conexion y recíprocamente. El sistema incluye un miembro de terminal de dos partes conductivo que tiene un parte para el manejo de la conexion y una parte terminal de conexion. La parte de manejo de proteccion está adaptada para permitir la separacion de la proteccion metálica con respecto al dieléctrico interno y el soldado de la proteccion a la parte de manejo de la proteccion, protegiendo el dieléctrico interno contra el calor del proceso de la soldadura. La parte terminal de proteccion está adaptada para poner a tierra, la proteccion metálica e incluye un receptáculo para recibir la parte de manejo de la proteccion en un acoplamiento conductivo.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for terminating the metallic shield of a high speed cable, and including a terminating member used with the method. At least a portion of the outer jacket of the high speed cable is removed to expose a portion of the metallic shield of the cable. The cable is positioned on a conductive terminating member having an opening in registry with the exposed portion of the metallic shield. The shield is soldered to the terminating member through the opening.
