    Abstract: A system and method for enabling simultaneous voice and data communication over a communication channel having a single pair of allocated Walsh codes in a wireless telecommunication network. A converter server intercepts voice data coming from and going to from mobile telecommunication devices, such as mobile telephones, and converts the voice data into data packets, preferably in an IP Protocol. In transmission, the packets with voice data are then sent to the communication server(s) hosting the communication channel for the mobile device and are carried with non-voice data packets in a single communication channel to other mobile communication devices. In receipt, the voice data packets can be returned to analog voice data at the converter server, or alternately, the mobile device will handle the separation and conversion of the voice data from data packets received.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining a sector location of a wireless communication device and transmitting data from a base station to the wireless communication device over a signaling channel in a wireless communication network without establishing a dedicated data access channel. When the base station is ready to send data over a signaling channel to the wireless communication device, the base station first sends a route table update message to the wireless communication device. The wireless communication device sends a response back to the base station without starting any routine to establish a traffic channel. The response is delivered with a sector information to the base station. After receiving the response, the base station transmits the data over the signaling channel to the sector where the wireless communication device is located.

    Abstract: A system and method for minimizing latency for direct group communications, such as push-to-talk (PTT) calls, among a group of wireless telecommunication devices on a wireless telecommunication network. The wireless telecommunication device selectively requests and then receives an open dedicated broadcast channel for an outgoing communication, which can include a group communication stream to a communication server that receives and creates a group communication to all wireless telecommunication devices of the designated group. The wireless telecommunication device selectively receives a broadcast channel based upon a predetermined probability, and assigns a greater probability of receiving an open broadcast channel for requests to transmit group communication streams than for requests to open a broadcast channel that are not for a group communication.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for delivering media to a group of target communication devices provides for multicasting media to the group of target communication devices to save network resources. The disclosed embodiments provide for a significant reduction in network traffic and media processing time by transmitting media in multicast transport mode, where a single copy of the media destined for a group of target recipients is transmitted to a wireless infrastructure over the multicast path. The wireless infrastructure replicates and transmits one copy of the media to each of the target recipients that are assigned to dedicated channels, but multicasts one copy of the media to the target recipients that are assigned to a shared channel.
