Abstract: An information recording/reproducing apparatus wherein exact reproduction of both wobbled address information and sync information can be realized in a recording mode as well as in a reproduction mode. The apparatus comprises first and second detectors (61A, 61B) for detecting two diametrical side portions of each track (2) on a recording medium (1) where a pregroove is modulated correspondingly to address information and sync information of mutually different frequency bands; a calculator (48) for calculating a normalized track information signal on the basis of the outputs of the first (61A) and second detectors (61B); and a third detector (37) for detecting the address information and/or the sync signal on the basis of the output of the calculator (48).

Abstract: Clock marks for extracting clock components are made in advance at regular intervals along the track of a discoid recording medium, and clock components are extracted by detecting these clock marks at the time of rotating the discoid recording medium. Since the clock components are extracted from the definitely and periodically arranged clock marks in such a way, and interpolating clocks in sections between clock marks are generated based on the extracted clock components, highly accurate clocks can be obtained as compared with the case where clocks are extracted from reproduced codes. Therefore, the capacity of the discoid recording medium can be remarkably increased.

As a result, the precision and the reliability of recording can be attained.

Abstract: A magnetic disk apparatus suitable for use as a hard disk apparatus in a computer system. The apparatus includes a disk-like medium having a magnetic film formed on a surface, which information is recorded on or reproduced from; and magnetic heads (20 - 31) for recording on or reproducing from the information the disk-like medium. The disk-like medium has data recording regions (20 - 41D) and control signal recording regions (20 - 40), (20 - 41H). In the data recording regions, data tracks are raised and adjacent data tracks are separated by recessing guard bands (20 - 20). In the control signal recording region, on the other hand, tracking marks (20 - 12), (20 - 13) for tracking control of the magnetic heads, track number marks (20 - 71) for stipulating the tracks , track numbers (20 - 41b1), (20 - 41b2) and clock marks (20 - 11) for equidistantly dividing a circumference are formed in projections and recesses along the paths (21 - 21) of the magnetic heads. In this apparatus, the guard band is recessed with respect to the track. Accordingly, the guard band needs not be expanded so as to reduce cross-talk, and a recording capacity can be increased by reducing the track pitch. Because the tracking mark and the track number mark or the clock mark are formed in projections and recesses along the paths of the magnetic heads, accurate access becomes possible even when the track pitch is reduced.

Abstract: A data pattern generator generates pattern data corresponding to a pre-formatted pattern and supplies it to apparatus such as a laser cutting machine for forming the pre-formatted data pattern (such as clock information, servo information and read-out information) in a disc. The generator includes a first memory unit 23 for storing a data array at least part of a data pattern to be formed on the disc, and a second memory unit 22 for storing an order or a coordinate for outputting the data array, the data array being re-arrayed in accordance with an angle of rotation of the disc as detected from timing pulses St. The first memory unit 23 may store a two-dimensional data array which may be re-arrayed in accordance with both an angle of rotation of the disc and with a radius of the same. The data pattern generator may include a delay unit for adding a predetermined delay quantity to the data array in accordance with a radius of the recording medium, thereby producing a data pattern which is curved in a radial direction.
