Abstract: Un método para fabricar un material de empaque biodegradable, que comprende coextrusión sobre un sustrato (1) fibroso comprendiendo un recubrimiento multicapa (i) una capa (2) más interna de una mezcla que comprende 20-95 % en peso de un primer poliláctido y 5-80 % en peso de otro polímero biodegradable, (ii) una capa (3) intermedia que consiste de un segundo poliláctido, y (iii) una capa (4) más externa de una mezcla que comprende 20-95 % en peso de un tercer poliláctido y 5-80 % en peso de otro polímero biodegradable, teniendo el segundo poliláctido de bajo índice de fusión que el del primer y el tercer poliláctido.

Abstract: The invention provides a biodegradable packaging material, a method of manufacturing the same, as well as products made of the material. There is coextruded onto a fibrous substrate (1) a multilayer coating comprising innermost and outermost layers (2, 4) of a blend comprising 20-95 wt-% of a higher melt index polylactide and 5-80 wt-% of another biodegradable polymer such as polybutylene succinate, and a middle layer (3) containing a lower melt index polylactide alone. The goal is to increase machine speed in coextrusion while maintaining good adhesiveness to the substrate and good heat-sealability of the coating. The products include disposable drinking cups and board trays, as well as sealed carton packages for solids and liquids.

Abstract: A method of forming a film comprising nanocellulose having an Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) value in the range of 0,1 to 300 cc/m2/24h at 38°C and 85 % relative humidity (RH), and having a basis weight in the range of in the range of 0,1 to 45 g/m2 wherein the method comprises the steps of; providing a suspension comprising nanocellulose, forming at least one layer of a web or a film from said suspension; drying said formed web or film to a dry content of at least 65 weight-%, wherein said method further comprises the steps of; treating at least one side of said dewatered and dried web or film with ultra violet (UV) or electron beam (EB) irradiation; and wherein at least one cooling step is provided in connection with or after the UV or EB treatment step.

Abstract: The invention relates to use of polylactide (PLA) as an extruded polymer coating on paper or board intended for the production of containers and packages, which are heated in a stove or microwave oven. According to the invention a polyfunctional cross-linking agent, such as trialkyl isocyanureate (TAIC), is blended with PLA, and the extruded coating layer is subjected to cross-linking electron beam (EB) radiation. PLA may be used as such or blended with another biodegradable polyester such as polybutylene succinate (PBS). EB radiation has been found to improve adhesion of the coating to the paper or board substrate, heat-sealability of the coating, and heat- resistance of the finished containers and packages.
