The invention relates to a surface treatment composition for paper, board or other fibrous webs. The composition of the invention comprises particles which comprise an active material and a supporting material. The active material comprises a salt or a multivalent metal, such as a divalent or trivalent metal. In accordance with the invention, the supporting material is adapted to release the active material from the particles when subjected to heat and/or pressure and/or a change in pH. Consequently, the active material's adverse effects on the rheology of the composition are avoided while its desired effects on the surface characteristics are retained or enhanced.

The invention refers to a method to produce a packaging material comprising the steps of; treating at least one surface of a paperboard substrate with a binder and with a metal salt, printing at least a part of said treated surface with ink, and applying at least one polymer layer on said printed surface. The packaging material produced in accordance with the invention shows good printability and simultaneously good adhesion of the applied polymer layer.

The present invention relates to a container for liquid containing food products, manufactured by press forming of a polymer coated fiber based substrate, said container comprising a bottom portion, a sidewall portion and a top flange portion,wherein said press forming has resulted in the formation a plurality of creases extending in a direction from the bottom portion to the top flange portion and further across the top flange portion, characterized in that the container comprises an indentation pattern formed at a creased inner surface of said sidewall portion and/or at a creased top surface of said top flange portion, said indentation pattern preventing migration of liquid from a liquid containing food product in the container along said creases, and to a method for manufacturing such container.

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for jointing members made of plastic-coated paper or board. In accordance with the invention, the sealable members are retained in position with clamps (8) and sealing is performed with a laser sealing means (7) moving along the sealing line, a means (9) for opening the seal point pressing the members apart to continue keeping the seal point open, a laser beam (11) being directed to the open seal point for melting the coating plastic and a means (12) for closing the seal pressing finally the members against each other, the plastic jointing the members when solidified. The method is applicable to lateral sealing of bag or container packages formed of blanks (1), among other things.
