    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain flexibility and stable UV absorptivity by forming the resin from the oxygen-permeable resin contg. silicon atom and copolymerized with an UV absorbent. CONSTITUTION:The resin consists of an oxygen-permeable resin copolymerized with an UV absorbent and contg. silicon atom and has an oxygen permeability coefficient of >=10X10 cm (STP).cm/cm .sec.mmHg. In this optical lens resin, the resin is the polymer of a siloxane having a double bond and a compd. having an acryloyl group copolymerized with the UV absorbent. In this case, the acryloyl group includes a methacryloyl group, the UV absorbent has an acryloyl group in the molecule, and the acryloyl group includes a methacryloyl group. Further, 0.01-10wt.% of the absorbent is copolymerized with the oxygen- permeable resin.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recycle a glycol component recovered at the step of polycondensation in a polyester production process as a starting material for the polyester production without purifying the recovered component by distillation. SOLUTION: In a process for producing a polyester by starting the esterification of a dicarboxylic acid with a glycol in a vacuum, adding the glycol further to the reaction system, increasing the degree of vacuum in the course of the esterification, completing the esterification, and conducting polycondensation while recovering the glycol, the glycol recovered at the step of polycondensation is used as at least a part of the glycol added after the starting of esterification.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester lowered in the amt. of the terminal carboxyl groups of the polymer chain and hence improved in hydrolytic resistance at a low cost by additionally adding a specific amt. of a dihydroxy component after completion of an esterification reaction and effecting a polymn. reaction after a specific period of time in a specific temp. range. CONSTITUTION: After completion of an esterification reaction (e.g. an esterification reaction of terephthalic acid with 1,4-butanediol), 0.1-0.5mol, based on the dicarboxylic acid component, dihydroxy component is additionally added to an esterification reaction vessel. The resulting mixture is stirred or allowed to stand in a temp. range of the b.p. of the dihydroxy component to the m.p. of the resulting prepolymer far 3 to 60min. Thereafter, the mixture is transferred to a polymerizer, wherein a polymn. reaction thereof is effected. According to the foregoing procedure, a polyester lowered in the amt. of the terminal carboxyl groups of the polymer chain can be prepd. at a low cost without needing large-scale remodeling of existent production facilities. This palyester is expected to be improved in salid phase polymerizability, lowered in water absorption, and improved in hydrolytic resistance under heat and moisture.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the contact lens by which a standard of the contact lens can be known easily from its external appearance by coloring it in a different color in accordance with a difference of the standard. CONSTITUTION:In two pieces or more of contact lenses having different standards, they are colored in different colors in accordance with a difference of the standards. In this case, as for the standards, the diameter, thickness, a base curve, lens power, etc., are given and also, there are the kind of a raw material, a lens design, a manufacture, a manufacturer's serial number, etc. As for a method for coloring in different colors, a method for coloring with different pigments are used, and also, a method for shading by using the same pigment, etc., are used. In such a way, that information related to a standard of a contact lens is obtained by an external appearance, the contact lens worn by a patient himself can be discriminated easily, and danger of erroneous wear can be prevented.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain terephthalic acid for producing the corresponding low- discolored polyester with stable color tone, and to provide a method for the above polyester. SOLUTION: The subject terephthalic acid has the following characteristics: the content of 9-fluorenone-2, 6-dicarboxylic acid is =87%; and the light transmittance (at 340 nm) of its alkali solution after heated at 280 deg.C for 3 h (concentration at 7.5 g/dL) (quartz cell, optical path length being 10 mm) is >=70%. The other objective polyester is obtained by esterification between the terephthalic acid and a glycol followed by conducting a polycondensation.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the fusion of polyester pellets in the molding step and improve their blocking resistance by setting the band half-value width at a specified wavelength in the Raman spectrum at the surface and central part of a polyester pellet to a specified value or lower. SOLUTION: The half-value width of a band of 1,730 cm in the Raman spectrum at the surface of this polyester pellet is 22 cm or lower and that in the central part is 18 cm or lower. The pellet may be cylindrical, elliptically cylindrical, squarely cylindrical, platy, or spherical and has the size of one side of about 0.7-12 mm. The pellets are produced by extruding a molten polyester through a circular or elliptical die, cooling the resultant strand at the glass transition point or higher for a sufficient time, and cutting the solidified strand with a cutter or by cutting the extruded strand still in the semimolten state with a cutter and subjecting the resultant pellets to shearing treatment under machanical impact.
