    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the elastic modulus and hot-water resistance of a crystalline polyester, without lowering the crystallinity, by adding a specific aromatic ester. CONSTITUTION:100 parts by weight of a linear crystalline polyester (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) is compounded with 0.1-20 parts of an aromatic ester of formula I or II (R is alkyl, alkoxy, ester, etc.) having a characteristics of a liquid crystal with a nematic melting point of >=120 deg.C. For example, the liquid crystal compound is mixed with the polyester by an extruder, a kneader, etc., or is attached to the pellets of the polyester. EFFECT:Useful for manufacturing of film, tape, bottles, and food containers.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain linear copolyester with excellent heat resistance by reacting an aromatic dicarboxylic acid component containing oxadiazole group and an aliphatic or alicyclic diol component. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic dicarboxylic acid component containing 1-30mol% of a compound of the formula (R1, R2 are H, 1C-10C alkyl; carboxyl group is positioned at para- or ortho position to oxadiazole group) and an aliphatic and/or an alicyclic diol component are reacted. As an aromatic dicarboxylic acid other than a compound of the formula, telephthalic acid; 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid or alkyl ester thereof are preferably used and, as a diol component, 2C-10C aliphatic and/or alicyclic diol, e.q. ethylene glycol; 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol or the like, is preferably used.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a copolyester having improved transparency, toughness, stiffness, heat resistance and mechanical properties and giving molded articles free from silver streak by copolymerizing 1,2-cyclohexanediol as a diol component. CONSTITUTION:In the production of a copolyester from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and two or more diols, 1,2-cyclohexanediol (a mixture of the cis- and trans- isomers at an arbitrary ratio) is used as a diol component to give a copolymer product containing 1-50mol%, preferably 3-30mol% of 1,2-cyclohexanediol on the basis of the whole diol component. EFFECT:The polymerization characteristics are improved and the glass transition point is raised.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A polyester composition having improved tensile elongation, impact and heat resistance, and electrical insulating propevties, comprising a crystalline polyester, saccharose benzoate, and a crustallization accelerator. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100 Parts by wt. of a crystalline polyester, e.g. polyethylene or poly-1,4-butylene terephthalate, is incorporated with (B) 1-30 parts by wt., preferably 3-10 parts by wt., of saccharose benzoate, e.g. saccharose mono- or heptabenzoate, and (C) 0.1-10 parts by wt., preferably 0.5-5 parts by wt., of a crystallization accelerator, e.g. talc, CaCO3, or sodium stearate.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as a raw material for high polymers having improved heat resistance, e.g. polyesters or polyamides, in one stage readily in high yield, by reacting a monohydrazide derivative of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its ester with an acid. CONSTITUTION:A compound, e.g. monomethyl terephthalate monohydrazide, of formula I: (R is H, alkyl, allyl, or aryl group) is dissolved in an acid or solvent, preferably water or an alcohol in excess, uniformly, and reacted with an inorganic acid, e.g. hydrochloric or phosphoric acid, or organic acid, e.g. benzenesulfonic or formic acid, at 0-150 deg.C, preferably to the boiling point of the solvent, to give a 2,5- bis(carboxyphenyl)1,3,4-oxadiazole of formula II. The acid is preferably added in at least a theoretical amount.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve compatibility and dispersibility of a flame-retardant for a polyester and to improve the appearance of the molded article, by adding a specific phosphite compound together with a polymeric flame-retardant having tetrabromobisphenol structural units, to the polyester. CONSTITUTION:A flame-retardant composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of a polyester, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, etc., (B) 3-30 parts by weight of a polymeric flame-retardant having tetrabromobisphenol structural units [e.g. formula I (n>=2), etc.], and (C) 0.01-5, preferably 0.05-5 parts by weight of a phosphite compound II and/or III [R is 6-20C alkyl; R' is H or 1-6C alkyl; n is 2-4; A is 1-6C alkylene, (thio)ether, carbonyl or sulfone] (e.g. formula IV, etc.). EFFECT:Whiteness and mechanical properties such as elongation are improved.
