    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester having a stabilized amount and particle diameter of contained particles by carrying out transesterification then adding a phosphorus compound and an alkali metallic compound, further adding an alkaline earth metallic compound and performing polycondensation. CONSTITUTION:An ester-forming derivative of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol are subjected to transesterification and a phosphorus compound and an alkali metallic compound are then added to the reaction product. An alkaline earth metallic compound is subsequently added to carry out polycondensing reaction. Thereby, a polyester in which main constituent units are ethylene terephthalate is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title film having an average surface roughness and a surface protrusion volume parameter in specified ranges and suited as a base film of a magnetic tape excellent in running performance and low in drop- out, by stretching an unstretched film formed by forming a lubricant-containing polyester into a film. CONSTITUTION:An unsaturated film obtained by melt-extruding a dried pelletized polymer formed from a mixture of a polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate of an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-0.9 with a lubricant such as inorganic particles having a crystallization acceleration effect coefficient -3.0X10 , a surface hardness of 8-50gf/mum and a friction coefficient on at least either surface of 0.2-3.0.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a biaxially oriented polyester film excellent in chipping resistance and useful as a base film for videotapes, by molding a composition comprising a polyester and inert inorganic particles while controlling the relationship between the half-value widths of the Raman bands of the outermost layer and inside of a film. CONSTITUTION:0.05-1.0wt.%, based on the product, slurried inert inorganic particles of an average particle diameter of 0.1-1.0mu are dispersed in a diol component of a polyester (e.g., ethylene glycol), and an acid component [e.g., terephthalic acid (dimethyl ester)] is added to this diol component. The mixture is transesterified and polycondensed to obtain composition comprising a polyester and the inert inorganic particles. This composition is extruded at 270-330 deg.C with a draft ratio of 5-30 and the formed unoriented film is heat-treated and biaxially oriented at a speed of orientation of 1X10 -7X10 %/min and an orientation ratio of 3.0-5.0 and heat-treated for 0.5-60sec at 130-210 deg.C in an atmosphere of steam to obtain the title biaxially oriented film in at least either of which surfaces the half-value width of the Raman band ascribable to CO groups on the outermost layer is greater than that of the inside by at least 1cm .

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester, having improved surface characteristic, etc., and suitable for fibers, etc., by blending terephthalic acid (derivative) with an alkali (earth) metal compound and silicone compound while heating and adding the resultant blend to synthetic reaction system of the polyester. CONSTITUTION:(A) Terephthalic acid (derivative) is mixed with ethylene glycol in a molar amount of, e.g. 20 times or more based on the component (A), and then blended with (B) an alkali (earth) metal compound, e.g. lithium acetate, etc., in a molar amount of 1-4 times based on the component (A) and (C) a silicone compound, e.g. dimethyldichlorosilane, etc., in an amount of 0.1-3wt% based on the component (B) and the resultant blend is heat-treated while stirring at 100-200 deg.C to give an additive, which is added to a synthetic reaction system of a polyester before starting polycondensation reaction to give preferably 0.005-0.5wt%, expressed in terms of the metal component in the component (B). The polycondensation reaction is then carried out to afford the aimed polyester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester giving a slippery film having extremely uniformly divided surface ruggness and free from coarse agglomerated particles, by adding an EG sol containing a specific silicon dioxide and a sulfur compound to a reaction system. CONSTITUTION:A polyester is produced by the reaction of a dicarboxylic acid or its ester-forming derivative with ethylene glycol. In the above process, the reaction system is added, at an arbitrary stage, with a silicon dioxide ethylene glycol sol having an average particle diameter of 0.01-2.0mu, preferably 0.02-1.5mu and an esterification index of >=0.45 and a compound containing sulfur atom. The amount of the sulfur-containing compound is 10-2,000ppm in terms of sulfur atom based on the silicon dioxide. The sulfur-containing compound is preferably potassium sulfate, etc., and is preferably added to an EG sol. The additives are added to the reaction system in the ester-exchange process of a polyester.
