    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain plastic optical fiber having a core consisting of polymethacrylic ester having superior light transmitting characteristic by prepg. the core by block polymn. at a specified temp. CONSTITUTION:A monomer consisting essentially of methacrylic ester is mixed with additives in a mixing vessel 15 and the mixture 16 is charged to a polymn. vessel 1 and polymerized by circulating a heat medium introduced from an introducing hole 20. The polymn. temp. is elevated gradually from 90 deg.C to 200 deg.C, thus, a polymer having uniform quality and superior transparency is obtd. with conversion as high as >=90% by the block polymn. method. Obtd. core polymer is transferred to a spinning soln. tank 2 where volatile matters are removed out of a vent hole 10. Then, the spinning soln. tank 2 is upset and a piston 4 is pushed down to extrude the core polymer through a die 28. An opening 26 is provided to a die block 24 so as to permit simultaneous extrusion of a sheath polymer. The opening 26 is connected to a sheath polymer extruder 25.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin composition comprising a specific biodegradable copolymer and a solvent, excellent in processability, safety and stability, having good biodegradability, thereby excellent in environmental pollution prevention, and useful for processed paper for printing and wrapping, printing inks, etc. SOLUTION: This resin composition comprises (A) a biodegradable copolymer having ester groups and amide groups (e.g. a copolymer resin having 5-80wt.% of polyamide units and produced from a 3-12C lactone compound and a polyamide-forming compound comprising the nylon salt of a 4-12C dicarboxylic acid and a 4-12C diamine or a 4-12C aminocarboxylic acid, and having a melting point of >=60 deg.C), (B) an alcoholic solvent such as methanol, ethanol, propanol or butanol, and, if necessary, further water.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which is high in capacity, excellent in charging and discharge cycle characteristic and also excellent in safety. CONSTITUTION:In a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using carbonaceous material as electrodes, paper with pulp as its main component or a combination of this paper and porous film is used for the separator. Accordingly, the short circuit between positive and negative electrodes due to fuzz of the carbonaceous material is perfectly prevented, so that rupture/ignition of the battery caused by rapid temperature rise due to the short-circuiting is prevented and the product ratis is raised.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title composition excellent in weather resistance, stain resistance and abrasion resistance, which comprises a graft polymer obtained by polymerizing a (meth)acrylic fluoroalkyl ester, a functional (meth)acrylic alkyl ester and a specific macromonomer, and a curing agent. CONSTITUTION:The title curable composition comprises a graft polymer (A) obtained by polymerizing 3-90wt.% (meth)acrylic fluoroalkyl ester monomer (a), 5-30wt.% functional (meth)acrylic alkyl ester monomer (b) and 5-90wt.% macromonomer (c) having a radical-polymerizable double bond and a molecular weight of 800-10,000, and a curing agent (B) having a functional group reactive with the polymer (A) (e.g., hexamethylene diisocyanate). This composition is quite suitable as a coating agent having stain resistance and weather resistance for buildings, cars, railway vehicles, air planes, ships, electric articles, etc., or as a binder composition for magnetic recording media.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain optical transmission performance which is excellent in a visible to near IR region by using a polymer or copolymer as a core of a plastic optical fiber having core-cladding structure. CONSTITUTION:Deuterated pentafluorophenyl methacrylate, 0.1mol% azobis tert-butane and 0.1mol% n-butyl mercaptan are mixed in the substantial absence of dust and oxygen and are polymerized for 24hr at 130 deg.C in a hermetic system. After the unreacted monomers are removed under a reduced pressure, the copolymer is melt-extruded simultaneously with a cladding polymer by using a composite mouthpiece, by which the optical fiber is prepd. Spinning is executed at 220 deg.C and a copolymer of hexafluoropropyl methacrylate/MMA is used for the cladding material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A prepolymer composed of a specific polyhydroxy compound and a polyisocyanate is dispersed in water and a chain extender is made to act thereon to produce high-quality titled emulsion free from adverse effects caused by the emulsifier. CONSTITUTION:The reaction between (A) polyhydroxy compounds including a polyhydroxy compound with 3 or more functional groups such as glycerol, (B) monohydroxypolyalkylene oxide of which the polyoxyalkylene chains are composed of 50-100wt% of oxyethylene chains and the molecular weight is 400-8,000, and (C) an excess amount of polyisocyanate is conducted to produce a prepolymer with isocyanate groups on the chain terminals. Then, the prepolymer is dispersed in water and (D) a chain extender is made to act thereon or the prepolymer is partially chain extended, then made to react with the component D to produce the objective emulsion. USE:Artificial leather, adhesive, coating and so on.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance removal performance of cation ions by dipping a composite semipermeable membrane provided with an ultra-thin membrane layer having cross- linked polyamide on a fine porous support membrane into a sodium hydrogensulfite solution, then specifying a resistivity holding ratio of permeated water when a NaCl solution is used as raw water. SOLUTION: In the composite semipermeable membrane provided with the ultra-thin membrane layer, which consists essentially of the cross-linked polyamide, having separation performance on the fine porous support membrane not having separation performance, the resistivity holding ratio when it treats with water under a specified condition, is set at >=80%. Thus, even in the case that the treating water contains an electrolyte, while removal performance of a solute is maintained, high water permeability is secured. Here, when a resistivity of the permeated water after immersion is >3 MΩ.cm, e.g. a recovery type ion exchange resin tower can be dispensed with.
