Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent display defect and improve yield of a display by applying barrier-rib correction paste to a defective part of a barrier rib before a baking process of the barrier rib of a discharge-type display member, and baking it to correct the defective part. SOLUTION: For correcting a defective part before a baking process of a barrier rib, correction paste is applied to the defective part in the barrier rib, they are molded and baked simultaneously together with the barrier rib. Baking after the correction of the defective part prevents the defective part from rising during the baking and height of the defective part is equalized after the correction. This prevents defective display during lighting of a display unit. A paste applying method to the defective part is not especially limited. A method of using an application needle is adequate for applying paste with high viscosity, and a method of using a dispenser has high application speed and is adequate for correcting a large defective part. In either case of the application needle or the dispenser, normally, are having width of an application pattern of 10-50 μm is used.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove generated crushed pieces by sucking the vicinity of a short-circuited portion by a short circuit repairing method for cutting the short-circuited portion on a board with the energy via direct radiation of a laser beam. SOLUTION: Abnormal discharge on electrodes and luminance reduction and abnormal luminescence on barrier ribs occur due to a short circuit portion 1 generated on silver electrodes or glass barrier ribs as a defective portion and a protruded portion generated by foreign matters or a pattern form collapse on a stripe-like pattern of a board 2. When the short-circuited portion 1 is cut by radiation of a laser beam 4 from a laser gun 3 above, the vicinity is sucked by a suction device 5 installed above at a position other than this passing path preferably for 1 sec or longer. The power of the laser beam 4 is preferably changed according to the melting point of the constituting material of the short- circuited portion 1. Crushed pieces are not scattered from the short-circuited portion 1 radiated by the laser beam 4, the pollution to the surrounding is prevented, and the number of times of radiation of the laser beam 4 to newly generated defects is reduced.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the color filter having a uniform spacer formed to sufficient height by providing a gate formed of a colored layer of a different color from a spacer top layer at the periphery of a spacer part. SOLUTION: A black matrix 11 is provided between pixels 10 of red(R). On the black matrix 11 formed on a transparent substrate 16, a spacer 12 is formed by laminating colored layers of the primary colors, i.e., blue(B), green(G), and red(R) from the bottom. The gate 14 is provided around the spacer 12. The gate 14 is formed of the bottom colored layer (B) among the three colored layers forming the spacer 12. The gate 13 can be formed more easily by patterning the spacer so that the part of the gate 14 is left. Therefore, this gate 14 suppresses the leveling of the top colored layer (R), so the color filter having the spacer 12 formed uniformly to the sufficient height is obtained.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain color filters which are defectless and have an excellent display grade by setting the area of the contact parts of spacers formed by laminated layers of colored layers with a counter substrate smaller than the area of the bottoms of the spacers, thereby substantially preventing the occurrence of shorting between the spacers and the counter substrate. SOLUTION: The color filters used for this liquid crystal display element are obtd. by providing the surface of a transparent substrate 1 with a resin black matrix 2 consisting of a resin and a light shielding material and further, arranging a plurality of the colored layers 3 to 5 consisting of three primary colors thereon. Namely, the spacers formed by the laminated layers of the colored layers 3 to 5 consisting of the three primary colors are formed on this resin black matrix 2. At the time of laminating the patterns of the colored layers 3 to 5, the areas of the contact parts with the counter substrate 13 are so laminated as to be made smaller than the areas of the bottoms of the spacers. More particularly the adoption of this constitution is recommended when the spacers of in the area of the contact parts with the counter substrate 13 are formed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain a thin film transistor(TFT) substrate having a protective film which has both functions as a flattening film and an orienting film in the effective region of the TFT substrate by forming a protective film on the substrate by ink-jet method. SOLUTION: A transparent layer (patterned transparent layer) 4 is formed by patterning by ink jet method. As for the ink jet coating method, continuous spraying or intermittent spraying, demand-type or any of these can be used. For example, when a TFT substrate for a liquid crystal display device in which electrodes to apply an electric field parallel to the substrate 1 is driven by thin film transistors, the method can be effectively used. The resin soln. compsn. for a coating liquid to be used for ink jet coating method is applied into a desired pattern on the TFT substrate by ink jet method. A transparent layer 4 is formed on the effective region of the image structural part. and the border of the transparent layer 4 is preferably formed in the area corresponding to the frame which surrounds the color filter pixel.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin solution composition which has excellent applicability and capability of leveling and can give alignment films having good rubbing resistance by mixing a polyimide and/or its precursor component with an acrylic resin component and a solvent component. SOLUTION: This composition comprises a polyimide and/or its precursor component (e.g. a polymer component obtained by reacting 3,3',4,4'- benzophenonetetracarboxylic anhydride with a diamine component), an acrylic resin component and a solvent component. Most of solutions of a conventional polyimide and/or its precursor component for forming liquid crystal alignment films does not always have sufficient applicability and rubbing resistance. The above resin composition solution for forming alignment films has good applicability and can give an alignment film having excellent rubbing resistance. This film can be desirably used for a liquid crystal display driven by an electric field parallel with the substrate, can dispense with the step of applying an alignment film, and can give a color filter having good levelness.
