Abstract: An imaging system is provided which combines the perfect registration capabilities of xerography to form perfectly registered red, green and blue images in a single pass in one mode of operation. In another mode of operation, the color gamut possible with RGB toners is extended using black toner to develop an image that is formed using a second imager or exposure device. The result is an extended gamut color imaging process using four colors side by side in a single pass with a minimum amount of color desaturation and with a minimum number of image registrations. Yet another mode of operation provides for creating K + 2 colors in a single pass. The three or two colors may be used to form highlight colors and/or logo colors.

Abstract: Es werden Verfahren zum Höhenausgleich von Tinte auf Substraten und Vorrichtungen, die für das Drucken geeignet sind, bereitgestellt. Eine anschauliche Ausführungsform der Verfahren umfasst: Beaufschlagen von Tinte, die auf einer Oberfläche eines por von mindestens einer Strahlungsenergiequelle abgegeben wird. Die Strahlung erwärmt die Tinte auf zumindest eine Viskositätsschwellwerttemperatur der Tinte, so dass die Tinte lateral auf der Oberfläche fließen kann, um einen Höhenausgleich der Tinte zu erzeugen. Die Tinte wird ausreichend schnell erwärmt, so dass eine Wärmeübertragung von der Tinte auf das Substrat klein ist während des Höhenausgleichs, so dass Tinte an der Substratgrenzfläche auf eine Temperatur unterhalb der Viskositätsschwellwerttemperatur gekühlt wird, wodurch ein ausgeprägtes Eindringen der Tinte in das Substrat verhindert wird.

Abstract: A print head (24) is disclosed for use in a marking apparatus in which a propellant stream (A) is passed through a channel (34) and directed toward a substrate (38). Marking material (28), such as ink, toner, etc., is controllably introduced into the propellant stream (A) and imparted with sufficient kinetic energy thereby to be made incident upon the substrate (38). A multiplicity of channels for directing the propellant and marking material allow for high throughput, high resolution marking. Multiple marking materials (28C, 28M, 28Y, 28K) may be introduced into the channel (34) and mixed therein prior to being made incident on the substrate (38), or mixed or superimposed on the substrate (38) without re-registration. One example is a single-pass, full-color printer.
