Abstract: An inductive-type rotary encoder (2) capable of generating an output signal indicative of the angular position of a rotor (4) to a stator (6) is disclosed. The rotary encoder (2) includes a stator (6) having at least one conductive pattern on one side thereof, and a rotor (4) having another conductive pattern on one side thereof which faces the at least one conductive pattern of the stator (6). The conductive patterns are inductively coupled to one another so as to generate an output signal indicative of the angular position of the rotor (4) relative to the stator (6). In order to reduce the overall size and number of parts required, the circuitry for energizing the stator conductive pattern(s) and for generating the output signal can be provided on a printed circuit board, the opposite side of which contains the at least one stator conductive pattern. In order to reduce noise as well as to reduce the first harmonic error, lead lines for attaching the stator and rotor conductive patterns to the controlling circuitry and a return line which extends along substantially the entire length of the rotor or stator conductive patterns and attaches to one of the lead lines are provided and specially located relative to undulations of the conductive patterns. Additionally, the length of spokes which define undulations of the respective rotor and stator conductive patterns can be controlled to improve the performance of the rotary encoder. A rotary encoder (2) including inductively coupled rotor and stator conductive patterns for generating a relative angular position (or rotary speed) of the rotor (4) relative to the stator (6), as well as stator and rotor index pulse patterns inductively coupled for generating an index pulse once per revolution of the rotor relative to the stator is also provided.

Abstract: A method of printing includes processing a print job stream to identify o ne or more images to be printed on a first substrate. The first substrate has a substrate attribute, such as paper weight or surface roughness, which is different from that of a second substrate. A marking engine is selected to print the identified images on the selected first substrate. An operating parameter of the marking engine is modified from a set point for the second substrate to a modified set point for the first substrate, to accommodate the substrate attribute of the selected first substrate. The identified images are sent to the selected marking engine to be printed.

Abstract: A belt drive module and a corresponding method includes or employs a belt that moves along a path, at least one support roller or other structure that supports the belt as it moves along the path, a drive roller that effects movement of the belt along the path, a tension roller that applies a tension force to the belt in order to maintain engagement of the belt with the drive and/or support rollers, at least one processing station (e.g., an image processing station) disposed along the path that performs a process relative to a predetermined position of the belt, and a torque assist drive that applies a torque assist force T d at a location between the drive roller and the tension roller. Torque assist may be provided by a current limited DC motor or by a constant torque friction clutch applied to a roller, e.g., a stripper roller of an electrophotographic imaging system. Advantageously, the torque assist force T d facilitates accurate positioning of the belt (e.g., latent image registrations in a color imaging process employing multiple imaging processing stations) by reducing slippage between the drive roller and the belt that may be encountered due to belt wear, toner contamination and/or other debris.

Abstract: In color printing with a color registration system for the registration of plural color images on an image bearing surface, such as a photoreceptor belt (12) of a color printer, registration marks (32) are imaged on the image bearing surface, which registration marks correspond to the color images and are sensed by a registration marks sensor (22). The system first automatically images first registration marks (32), preferably "Z" targets, which provide wider initial mis-registration latitude for the sensor (22) for gross registration. When an initial registration is achieved, the system automatically switches to imaging second registration marks (36), preferably chevron targets, providing higher registration accuracy for the sensor (22). These registration targets may be generated along opposite sides of the image area on opposite sides of the photoreceptor (12) or other belt.

Abstract: Un modulo detector es capaz de detectar al menos un aspecto de objetos producidos por una pluralidad de fuentes de objetos. Puesto que el modulo detector o un conjunto de elementos detectores es usado para examinar la salida de la pluralidad de fuentes de objetos, la variacion detector a detector es removida con una fuente de error. En un procesador de documentos de maquinas multiples, la informacion del modulo detector es usada para ajustar los accionadores del proceso, ajustar datos de imagen y/o generar restricciones de programacion para mejorar la consistencia de salida de produccion. Por ejemplo las paginas confrontadas de un documento son transformadas unicamente en maquinas marcadoras que operan con una tolerancia predeterminada entre si. Los datos de imagen pueden ser alternados de modo que las imagenes relacionadas esten dentro de las capacidades medidas de una pluralidad de maquinas marcadoras. Los accionadores del sistema, como los accionadores xerograficos, de maquinas marcadoras seleccionadas son ajustadas para mejorar la consistencia de salida de produccion entre maquinas marcadoras.
