    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide silica glass for a photocatalyst, which silica glass is used in a photocatalytic reaction unit and has a characteristic of efficiently converting a wavelength of light not longer than about 250 nm to a longer wavelength of from about 250 nm to about 450 nm and an excellent UV resistance characteristic of hardly losing its catalytic activity after a prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays, both characteristics being effective for enhancing reaction efficiency of a photocatalyst, and a method of preparing the same.
    SOLUTION: The silica glass for a photocatalyst is characterized in that the content of a hydroxy (OH) group is not more than 10 weight ppm, a linear transmittance at a thickness of 10 mm and at a wavelength of 245 nm is in a range of from 90.0% to 30.0%, the total content of chlorine and fluorine is not more than 100 weight ppm, and is used in a photocatalytic reaction unit. A method of preparing silica glass for a photocatalyst capable of preparing such silica glass for a photocatalyst as described above is disclosed.
