Abstract:
N-(2,2,6,6-tetraalkyl-4-piperidinyl)amine-hydrazides of dicarboxylic acids contain a light stabilizing group, a heat stabilizing group, a 5-membered lactam ring and a reactive hydrazide functionality in the same molecule. The reactive stabilizers can be prepared by reacting 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetraalkylpiperidines with dialkyl itaconates followed by hydrazinolysis of the ester group of the intermediate mono ester-amide. The compounds are useful for introducing permanent heat and light stability to coreactive polymers or copolymers. They are also useful in the stabilization of inert polymeric systems against the degradative effects of heat and light when merely mixed with, rather than reacted with, the polymers for which stabilization is sought.
Abstract:
Curable compositions which are precursors for cured or partially cured light stabilized epoxy resins which are the product of the reaction of some or all of the epoxy groups of an epoxy resin with an N-(2,2,6,6-tetraalkyl-4-piperidinyl)amic acid hydrazide as well as the cured or partially cured reaction products thereof together with processes for their use and articles of manufacture produced thereby are disclosed.
Abstract:
A process of preparing purified alkanesulfonic acid from crude aqueous alkanesulfonic acid containing oxidizable impurities wherein the crude material is treated with a sufficient amount of chlorine to convert the oxidizable impurities to alkanesulfonyl chloride and then hydrolyzing said alkanesulfonyl chloride to alkanesulfonic acid by heating.
Abstract:
Stabilized polyurethanes, polyureas and polyurethane-polyurea polymers having hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) bonded thereto by means of a hydrazide functionality attached to the HALS are provided. The synergistic effect of a second amide functional group in the HALS-hydrazide provides improved photostabilization efficiency as compared to HALS-hydrazides of the prior art.
Abstract:
Method of preparing SbSbS4 product having a low level of free sulfur impurity, which includes mixing aqueous solutions of an alkali metal thioantimonate and a halide stabilized antimony thrihalide to form a reaction mixture, while maintaining the reaction mixture at a pH of less than 7, to provide the SbSbS4 product having a low level of free sulfur impurity.
Abstract:
Off-color N-(C₄-C₁₀)alkyl di(C₂-C₃) alkanolamines purified and decolorized by vacuum distillation at a pressure within the range of 1 to 50 mm.Hg (1-50 torr) in the presence of water and or water-soluble metal borohydride whereby the distilled alkanolamine has a reduced APHA color rating which is maintained on storage.
Abstract:
A composition is disclosed for dissolving sulfur and preventing or removing sulfur plugs from sour gas and oil wells or other conduits through which sulfur bearing liquids flow which comprises a major proportion of a liquid or gaseous mercaptan, a minor proportion of a catalyst which is a substantially water-insoluble amine, and minor amount of an activator which is a compound of the formula:
where R is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or alkaryl and the alkyl moieties have from 1 to 24 carbon atoms, and x and y are independent values between 0 and 24 provided that x or y is at least 1; a method is also disclosed wherein said composition in an effective amount is injected into a conduit to prevent or remove sulfur plugging, and the composition containing dissolved sulfur is optionally recovered.
