Abstract:
Preclinical and clinical studies have shown that the autonomic nervous system (parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems) show reliable changes across the sleep wake cycle. Most importantly, the parasympathetic nervous system shows increased activity during sleep consistent with its role in regulating rest. Further, patients with insomnia show reduced parasympathetic activity and/or increased sympathetic activity during sleep consistent with a neurobiological model of “hyperarousal”. Described herein are methods and apparatuses that activate the parasympathetic nervous system in response to a diving reflex; a sustained diving reflex may, surprisingly, lead to enhancing sleep. The apparatuses and methods described herein may specifically and/or selectively activate this reflex may play a therapeutic role in the modulation of sleep in insomnia patients.
Abstract:
Aspects of the present disclosure relate aids for the visually impaired. A mount for an auxiliary lens for a head-worn computer includes one or more magnetic elements associated with a first mating surface on the auxiliary lens, and a magnetic element associated with a second mating surface on the head-worn computer proximate a camera in the head-worn computer, wherein, when the auxiliary lens is placed in a use position, the first mating surface engages the second mating surface so that the auxiliary lens and the camera share a common optical axis and the magnetic attraction of the magnet elements on the first and second mating surfaces holds the auxiliary lens in position.
Abstract:
A therapeutic light emitting diode lighting system to treat seasonal affective disorder, to be provided at an upper portion of a hot tub basin above an indicated maximum water level, the hot tub basin defining at least one seat portion and corresponding headrest defined by the hot tub basin such that a facial region corresponds to the headrest, the facial region corresponding to a facial area of a person seated in the seat portion and supported by the headrest, the therapeutic light emitting diode lighting system including at least one array of light emitting diode (LED) bulbs provided on the upper area, the LED bulbs configured to illuminate colors and wavelengths selected to treat seasonal affective disorder, the LED bulbs being angled to direct light at the facial region of the hot tub body.
Abstract:
A stimulation device is provided in accordance with one embodiment. The stimulation device includes a chamber which has a flexible wall portion. A drive unit of the stimulation device is in physical communication with the flexible wall portion so as to cause deflections of the flexible wall portion in opposing directions, thereby resulting in a changing volume of the chamber. The changing volume of the chamber results in modulated positive and negative pressures with respect to a reference pressure. An opening of the stimulation device is for applying the modulated positive and negative pressures to a body part. An appendage of the stimulation device may be used as a handle to allow a user to position the stimulation device over the body part. The stimulation device includes a control device for controlling the drive unit.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide a system, method, and apparatus for enhancing a sexual intercourse experience. A first sensor is worn on a first person engaging in sexual intercourse with a second person. A second sensor is worn on the second person. The proximity of the first and second sensors is communicated to a sound module that outputs sound, music, and/or lights that are synchronized to the thrusting motion occurring during the sexual intercourse.
Abstract:
An electronic safety baton for providing a portable, multifunction security apparatus which includes both visual and audible interface is embodied as a baton housing that externally includes a lighting element, a speaker, a display screen, pulse sensors, two manual actuators, and a baton charging surface, internally includes a rechargeable battery, and utilizes a discrete floor charger mat. The electrically interconnected components on and in the baton housing enable a pulse reading system, a lighting system, and a panic system, each of which use electricity from the battery and are activated through manual engagement. The baton charging surface, when engaged with the floor charger mat, enables the recharging of the battery by allowing externally sourced electricity to be directed to the battery.
Abstract:
A handcart (includes a main body unit, a pair of main wheels provided to the main body unit, a grip unit that is provided to the main body unit and gripped by a user, a grip switch that detects whether the user is gripping the grip unit, a tilt angle sensor, a camera, an acceleration sensor, or other devices that detect the state of the cart body, and a wheel lock mechanism that locks the main wheels if the grip switch does not detect user's gripping of the grip unit and if the cart body is in a predetermined state, for example, if it is detected by the acceleration sensor or other devices that the cart body is moving. This configuration provides a handcart that locks the wheels without necessarily compromising usability.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an optical needle comprising a coupling seat, a needle body in connection with the coupling seat and at least an optical fiber. The needle body comprises a lightguide groove extended along the length direction of the needle body to accommodate a portion of the optical fiber. The coupling seat provides a junction plane to couple a light source. An end of the lightguide groove is aligned with the junction plane, so to align an end of the optical fiber with the junction plane. The optical needle is characterized in that the long axis of the optical fiber reduces from a section aligned with the junction plane to an end adjacent to the needle body. A method for preparation of the optical needle is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A lighting device obtains data related to objects and boundaries in an area in the vicinity of the lighting device, and a user wearable device provides a display (e.g. an augmented reality display based on the data related to the objects and the area boundaries) for a user/wearer. The lighting device includes a mapping sensor that collects data related to the objects and boundaries in the area. The user wearable device includes a camera or other optical sensor and wireless communication capability. The user wearable device is provided with mapping data that is presented on a display of the user wearable device. The communications and display capabilities allow the user wearable device to obtain room mapping information related to area in the vicinity of the lighting device in order to provide navigational assistance to a visually impaired person in the area.
