Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for delivering a shipment by an unmanned transport device (1) to a receiving container (2) for said shipment (6), the method comprising the following and additional steps: moving the unmanned transport device (1) into a destination area (10) associated with the receiving container (2), on the basis of geographical co-ordinates (a); once the unmanned transport device (1) has reached the destination area (10), pairing of the transport device (1) with the receiving container (2) and exchanging electronic authorisation information (13) between the receiving container (2) and the unmanned transport device (1) (d).
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for attachment of a payload or store to the external surface of an aerial vehicle includes a single point release feature. The apparatus includes an elongated base having a first distal end and a second distal end. A retention receptacle including a hollow tube is disposed adjacent the first distal end and is configured to removably receive and retain the store or payload. In addition, a release receptacle housing a release mechanism assembly is disposed adjacent said second distal end. When the release mechanism assembly is in the closed and locked position, the store or payload is retained to the vehicle via a spring loaded lock pin advanced into the retention receptacle. When the release mechanism assembly is in the open and unlocked position, the store or payload may be disengaged from the vehicle.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein may help to provide medical support via a fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). An illustrative UAV may include a housing, a payload, a line-deployment mechanism coupled to the housing and a line, and a payload-release mechanism that couples the line to the payload, wherein the payload-release mechanism is configured to release the payload from the line. The UAV may further include a control system configured to determine that the UAV is located at or near a delivery location and responsively: operate the line-deployment mechanism according to a variable deployment-rate profile to lower the payload to or near to the ground, determine that the payload is touching or is within a threshold distance from the ground, and responsively operate the payload-release mechanism to release the payload from the line.
Abstract:
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may be used to deliver a descent system to an elevated location at which people await rescue, such as people trapped in an upper story of a burning building. The UAV may deliver the descent system, attach it to the building, and deploy the descent system. After deployment, the descent system may be tensioned to prevent sway and facilitate descent. Standoffs may be installed or integrated into the descent system to provide for adequate handholds for descending individuals. Various equipment and methods used in such systems are described herein.
Abstract:
A manipulator arm system (1) on a ducted air-fan UAV is disclosed herein. The target site may be accurately located by the UAV, and the manipulator system may accurately locate the payload at the target site. The manipulator arm may select tools from a toolbox located on-board the UAV to assist in payload placement or the execution of remote operations. The system may handle the delivery of mission payloads, environmental sampling, and sensor placement and repair.
Abstract:
The invention is a modular vehicle having an air vehicle that can be coupled to cargo containers, land vehicles, sea vehicles, medical transport modules, etc. In one embodiment the air vehicle has a plurality of propellers positioned around a main airframe, which can provide vertical thrust and/or horizontal thrust. One or more of the propellers may be configured to tilt forward, backward, and/or side-to-side with respect to the airframe.
