    Abstract: An acidic dye compound having antimicrobial activity is provided to have a structure in which two aromatic rings are linked by a sulfonamide group, and exhibit good fastness characteristics and excellent antimicrobial properties. An acidic dye compound having antimicrobial activity has a structure represented by the following formula of B^1-Ar^1-SO2NH-Ar^2-B^2. An acidic dye composition having antimicrobial activity comprises at least one of the acidic dye compounds, and further at least one dye compound selected from the group consisting of C.I. Acid Red 337, C.I. Acid Blue 324, C.I. Acid Yellow 199, and C.I. Acid Orange 67. The composition exhibits antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, or both strains thereof.
