Abstract: PURPOSE: A system and a method for preventing overheat of a motor for an electric power steering system are provided to prevent a motor from being overheated in advance because current is restricted in a range of predetermined current limit steering angle. CONSTITUTION: A system and a method for preventing overheat of a motor for an electric power steering system comprises a motor current control unit and an overheating prevention unit. The motor current control unit controls current applying to a motor. The overheating prevention unit is controlled by the motor current control unit in order to restrict amplitude of the current applying to the motor. The overheating prevention unit recognizes the current applying to the motor periodically, and sets a steering angle range based on the applied current. The overheating prevention unit receives steering angle signals of a vehicle which an electric power steering system is applied. If current steering angle is included in a range of the current limit steering angle, the overheating prevention unit controls the current applying to the motor.

CONSTITUTION: An electric power steering system comprises an input shaft(1) which is connected to a steering wheel, an output shaft(3) which is connected to wheels, a motor which is installed to provide auxiliary steering torque to the output shaft, a torsion bar(5) which interlinks the input shaft and the output shaft to form a torsion range in steering, a switch plate(7) and a resistance plate(9) which are independently installed in the input shaft and the output shaft and vary the resistance to flowing current according to the torsional displacement of the torsion bar, an input device which provides continuous electricity to the switch plate, and an output device which outputs the current having passed through the resistance plate continuously to the motor.

Abstract: A variable rack stroke apparatus of a steering system is provided to continuously vary stroke of a steering rack according to tire bump and rebound situation to secure a gap between a car body and a snow chain when the snow chain is attached to a tire. A variable rack stroke apparatus of a steering system includes a stopper and a stop protrusion. The stopper is rotated by a motor fixed to a steering housing. The stop protrusion restricts stroke of a steering rack according to a variation in the state of contact with the stopper. The stopper and the stop protrusion include spiral inclined faces. The variable rack stroke apparatus includes a sensor for sensing vertical motion of a suspension arm which connects a steering knuckle and a car body, and a controller(11) for controlling the motor according to a signal received from the sensor.

Abstract: A device for controlling steering characteristics adjusting stiffness of a torsion bar is provided to reduce manufacturing cost and to simplify structure of the product by increasing steering torque when the vehicle is in low speed and reducing steering torque when the vehicle is in high speed. A device for controlling steering characteristics adjusting stiffness of a torsion bar(2) comprises a length adjusting unit(10), a motor(27), and an ECU(11). The length adjusting unit is engaged at an upper end of the torsion bar, and vertically moves to change effective length of the torsion bar and to rotary force of a steering wheel to the torsion bar. The motor moves the length adjusting unit up and down. The ECU drives the motor forwardly and reversely in accordance with drive speed sensed by a speed sensor(12) to change effective length of the torsion bar to control steering characteristics. The length adjusting unit has a length adjustable shaft(20) wherein an insert groove(22) is formed at a lower part of a center. An upper part of the torsion bar is fitted to the insert groove of the length adjustable shaft. A gear unit(25) is formed at a side part of the length adjustable shaft. The gear unit is meshed with a drive gear(26) supported by a rotary shaft of the motor.
