    Abstract: PURPOSE: A thermoelectric generator for a vehicle is provided to transmit the heat energy of exhaust gas to thermoelectric modules efficiently as the thermoelectric modules are installed to be in contact with an inner wall of a muffler, thereby improving the efficiency of thermoelectric power generation of the thermoelectric modules. CONSTITUTION: A thermoelectric generator for a vehicle comprises a high-temperature unit(110), a low-temperature unit(120), and thermoelectric modules(130). The high-temperature unit functions as a muffler decelerating the noise of exhaust gas while the exhaust gas of an engine flows inside the high-temperature unit. The low-temperature unit is formed in the downstream of a flow passage of the exhaust gas flowing inside the high-temperature and includes a cooling water inlet(122) and an cooling water outlet(124) formed in the upstream of the flow passage of the exhaust gas where the cooling water is discharged. The thermoelectric modules are manufactured by welding a P-type semiconductor and an N-type semiconductor. The thermoelectric modules are mounted in a plurality of protrusions. The thermoelectric modules include inner surfaces heated by the protrusions and outer lateral surfaces cooled by being in contact with the low-temperature unit, thereby generating electricity by a thermoelectric phenomenon caused by a temperature difference of the inner surface and the outer lateral surfaces.

The inlet portion of the exhaust gas outflow pipe and the outlet portion of the intermediate pipe are placed in the same chamber. The outlet portion of the exhaust gas outflow pipe is protruded to the outside of the silencer housing to prevent with the exhaust gas discharge direction of the outlet portion of the exhaust gas outflow pipe from according with the inflow direction of the exhaust gas.
