Abstract: Compositions are provided that include a matrix and a polymeric composite particles disposed in the matrix. The polymeric composite particles include a porous polymeric core and a fragrance positioned within the porous polymeric core. Polymeric composite particles are also provided including a porous polymeric core, a fragrance positioned within the porous polymeric core, and a coating layer around the porous polymeric core. Further, a method of determining a minimum temperature of a composition is provided including providing a composition including polymeric composite particles disposed in a matrix, heating the composition, releasing at least a portion of the fragrance as a vapor from the porous polymeric core of the polymeric composite particles at or above the minimum temperature, and detecting at least a portion of the fragrance vapor in a location outside of the matrix.

Abstract: Curable epoxy resin compositions are provided that are mixtures containing an epoxy resin and composite particles. The composite particles have a porous polymeric core, a nitrogen-based curing agent for an epoxy resin positioned within the porous polymeric core, and a coating layer around the porous polymeric core. The nitrogen-containing curing agent typically does not react with the epoxy resin until the curable composition is heated causing the release of the nitrogen-containing curing agent from the composite particle. Additionally, cured epoxy resins formed from the curable composition and method of forming cured epoxy resins are provided.

Abstract: Provided are acoustic articles, and related methods, that include a porous layer and heterogeneous filler received in the porous layer. The heterogeneous filler can include clay, diatomaceous earth, graphite, glass bubbles, polymeric filler, non-layered silicate, plant-based filler, or a combination thereof, and can have a median particle size of from 1 micrometer to 1000 micrometers and a specific surface area of from 0.1 m2/g to 800 m2/g. The acoustic article can have an overall flow resistance of from 100 MKS Rayls to 8000 MKS Rayls. The acoustic articles can serve as acoustic absorbers, vibration dampers, and/or acoustic and thermal insulators.

Abstract: A thermal indicator, a thermal indicating composition (1), as well as two kinds of thermal indicating structures (11) are disclosed. The thermal indicator comprises an organic solid material (2) having a melting point higher than ambient temperature and a dye (3) which contacts the organic solid material (2) and is capable of being dissolved in the organic solid material (2) when the thermal indicator is heated to the melting point of the organic solid material (2). The thermal indicator, the thermal indicating composition (1), as well as these two kinds of thermal indicating structures (1) have simple structures and can be manufactured by a simple process. Furthermore, the existence of the dye (3) in its crystalline state offers significant resistance to UV radiation in outdoor applications.

Abstract: Composite particles are provided that can be used to cure epoxy resins. More particularly, the composite particles have a porous polymeric core particle, a curing agent and/or a curing catalyst for an epoxy resin positioned within the porous polymeric core particle, and a fluoropolymer-containing coating layer around the porous polymeric core particle. Additionally, curable compositions are provided that are mixtures containing an epoxy resin and the composite particles. The epoxy resin typically does not react until the curable composition is heated causing the release of the curing agent and/or curing catalyst from the composite particle. Further, cured compositions formed from the curable composition are provided.

Abstract: Polymeric composite particles are provided that can be used for the storage and delivery of various biologically active agent. The polymeric composite particles contain a porous polymeric core and a coating layer around the porous polymeric core. The porous polymeric composite particles typically further include a biologically active agent positioned within the porous polymeric core but not covalently bonded to the porous polymeric core. The biologically active agent can be released from the polymeric composite particle by diffusing out of the porous polymeric core through the coating layer.
