A solid catalyst component for the polymerization of olefins comprising a magnesium halide, a titanium compound having at least a Ti-halogen bond and at least two electron donor compounds one of which being selected from 1,3 diethers (DE) and the other being selected from dicarbamates (DC), said catalyst component being characterized by the fact that said electron donor compounds are present in a molar ratio DE:DC ranging from 4.5:1 to 20:1.

A gas-phase process for the homo or copolymerization of propylene with other olefins, carried out in the presence of a catalyst system comprising: (a) a solid catalyst component comprising Mg, Ti, halogen, an electron donor selected from 1.3-diethers and an olefin polymer in a specific amount; (b) an aluminum alkyl compound and (c) an external electron donor compound selected from specific classes; said components (a) and (c) being employed in amounts such that the Al/(ED) molar ratio ranges from 2 to 200. The process is capable to give polypropylene product having good morphological properties, high stereoregularity, and capable to show self- extinguishing properties such that the negative effects caused by the fine catalyst particle polymerization can be selectively solved or mitigated.

A pre-polymerized catalyst component for the polymerization of olefins CH 2 =CHR, wherein R is hydrogen or a C1-C12 hydrocarbon group, characterized by comprising a non-stereospecific solid catalyst component, comprising Ti, Mg and a halogen, said pre-polymerized catalyst component containing an amount of a (co)polymer of a monomer having formula CH 2 =CHA, where A is a C6 aliphatic or aromatic ring, optionally substituted, up to 5g per g of said solid catalyst component. Said prepolymerized catalyst shows an excellent balance in terms of activity, morphological stability, reduced tendency to agglomeration and hydrogen response.

A catalyst component comprising Ti, Mg, Al, Cl, and optionally OR I groups in which R I is a C1-C20 hydrocarbon group, optionally containing heteroatoms, up to an amount such as to give a molar OR I /Ti ratio lower than 0.5, characterized by the fact that substantially all the titanium atoms are in valence state of 4, that the porosity (P F ), measured by the mercury method and due to pores with radius equal to or lower than 1μm, is at least 0.3 cm 3 /g, and by the fact that the Cl/Ti molar ratio is lower than 29. The said catalysts are characterized by high morphological stability under the low molecular weight ethylene polymerization conditions while at the same time maintaining characteristics of high activity.

Catalyst precursors comprising Mg, Cl, Ti, and OR groups that are in molar ratios defined by the formula MgCl n Ti p (OR) (2-n ) +4p in which n is from 0.3 to less than 1.7, p is lower than 0.6, the molar ratio (OR)/Cl is lower than 4 and R is Cl -C15 hydrocarbon groups. The said precursor, just upon activation with organo-Al compounds, are able to advantageously polymerize ethylene and alpha olefins, and that upon reaction with halogenating compounds generate in high yields catalyst components with high polymerization activity particularly in the polymerization of propylene also in combination with 1,3-diethers.

A process for preparing crystalline ethylene (co)polymers comprising (co)polymerizing ethylene in the presence of carried out in the presence catalyst system comprising (a) a solid catalyst component comprising Ti, Mg, halogen, ORI groups, where RI is a C1-C12 hydrocarbon group optionally containing heteroatoms, having ORI/Ti molar ratio of at least 0.5, an amount of titanium, with respect to the total weight of said solid catalyst component, higher than 4% by weight, and showing a specific pattern of the SS-NMR; and (b) an aluminum alkyl compound as a cocatalyst. The process allows to obtain in good yelds ethylene polymers with narrow MWD.
