    Abstract: In the present invention there is disclosed a process for preparing polyoxytetramethylene glycol, which preparation process comprises reaction of tetrahydrofuran and but-2-ine-1,4-diol copolymer in the presence of hydrogen at a temperature ranging from 20 degC to 300 degC and at pressure within the range of 0.1 MPa to 30 MPa on a hydrogenation catalyst, whereby this tetrahydrofuran and but-2-ine-1,4-diol copolymer is prepared by polymerization of tetrahydrofuran on a heterogeneous acidic polymerization catalyst having acidity of acid centers pKia less than +2 in concentration of at least 0.005 mmol per gram of the catalyst, in the presence of but-2-ine-1,4-diol. For this preparation process a variety of polymerization catalysts can be used. For hydrogenation it is preferred to use a hydrogenation catalyst containing at least one element being selected from the groups Ib, VIIb or VIIIb of the Periodic System of Elements, particularly a heterogeneous hydrogenation catalyst.
