    Abstract: Preparation of water soluble or water dispersible copolymer comprises either polymerizing at least a polymer (P1) having at least an anhydride reactive group, and at least a compound containing alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated amide group, or reacting at least a hydrolysis product of P1 with a polyolefin (P2) containing at least a anhydride group, where the reaction step takes place using a shear force. Preparation of water soluble or water dispersible copolymer comprises either polymerizing at least a polymer (P1) having at least an anhydride reactive group, and at least a compound (M1) containing alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated amide group of formula (R1>-C(=O)-NR2>R3>), or reacting at least a hydrolysis product of P1 with a polyolefin (P2) containing at least a anhydride group, where the reaction step takes place using a shear force. R2>CH2=CR4>; R4>H or 1-4C-alkyl; and either R1>, R3>H, (cyclo)alkyl, heterocycloalkyl or (hetero)aryl; or R1>R3>NH2lactam with 5 to 8 ring atoms. Independent claims are included for: (1) the copolymer obtained by the above process; (2) an active or effective composition comprising the copolymer and at least an active or effective material with an solubility of 10 g/l in water at 25[deg]C and 1013 mbar; (3) a method for the preparation of the aqueous active or effective composition comprising either preparing homogeneous, non-aqueous mixture containing the copolymer and the active or effective material and dispersing the obtained mixture in water, or preparing a solution of the active or effective material and the copolymer in an organic solvent having boiling point less than water, mixing the obtained mixture and removing the organic agent, or preparing the active or effective material in an aqueous solution copolymer at a temperature above the melt temperature of the active agent; and (4) a cosmetic, pharmaceutical or plant protective agent comprising the copolymer, at least the cosmetic active or effective material and optionally at least an auxiliary material.

    Abstract: Production (P1) of aqueous secondary dispersions of water-insoluble copolymers involves providing monomer (M) comprising monoethylenically unsaturated monomer and hydrophilic, monoethylenically unsaturated, nonionic monomer, in an organic, water-miscible solvent; and replacing the solvent by water, where toward the end of the polymerization, composition of hydrophilic, monoethylenically unsaturated, nonionic monomer is added. Production (P1) of aqueous secondary dispersions of water-insoluble copolymers involves: (A) providing ethylenically unsaturated monomers (M) in an organic, water-miscible solvent or in a mixture of water with an organic, water-miscible solvent as a free-radical polymerization medium. (M) Comprises at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer (M1) with a solubility in water of not > 30 g/l at 25[deg]C and 1 bar, and at least one hydrophilic, monoethylenically unsaturated, nonionic monomer with a solubility in water of at least 80 g/l at 25[deg]C and 1 bar; and (B) removing the organic solvent and adding water, where toward the end of the polymerization of step (A), a monomer composition comprising at least one hydrophilic, monoethylenically unsaturated, nonionic monomer is added to the polymerization medium. An independent claim is included for producing (P2) aqueous secondary dispersions of water-insoluble polymers, where the polymers are produced by free-radical polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomer (M) involving: i) adding at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer with a solubility of not > 10 g/l at 25[deg]C in water and 1 bar, and at least one hydrophilic, monoethylenically unsaturated, nonionic monomer with a solubility of at least 80 g/l at 25[deg]C in water and 1 bar, to an organic, water-miscible solvent or a mixture of water and an organic, water-miscible solvent, where 85 - 97 wt.% of (M) is added to provide a primary polymerization medium; ii) providing a monomer composition comprising one hydrophilic, monoethylenically unsaturated, nonionic monomer (at least 90 wt.%) with a solubility of at least 80 g/l at 25[deg]C and 1 bar in water, and adding the monomer composition to the primary polymerization medium; and iii) removing the organic solvent and adding water following the addition of the monomer composition to the polymerization medium.
