    Abstract: A process for the preparation of polyaryl ether ketones by nucleophilic polycondensation of aromatic dihydroxyl compounds with aromatic dihalogen compounds using alkali metal carbonates and other alkali, alkaline earth and/or sub-group metal salts other than the alkali metal carbonates, where a) the alkali metal carbonates are employed in an excess of 0.5-10 Mol %, based on the amount of aromatic dihydroxyl compounds, and b) at least one other alkali, alkaline earth and/or sub-group metal salt is added at the beginning of the polycondensation in an amount corresponding at least to the molar excess of alkali metal carbonate.
