    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep neutrality in taste and allow both of cleaning and washing processes to be repeated by making tableware using a composition formed out of highly func tional thermoplastic resin and irradiating a high energy radiation thereto. SOLUTION: Highly functional thermoplastic resin to be used, or polyarylene ether has a repetition unit I, and is expressed as shown in the formula, where (t) and (q) have a value between 0 and 3, and T, Q and Z are independent of one another. The amount of highly functional thermoplastic resin A contained in a composition is advantageously between 1 and 100wt.%, preferably between 10 and 90wt.% and particularly between 30 and 70wt.%. Also, the residue of the composition contains a thermosetting polymer B existing by volume advantageously between 0 and 99wt.%, preferably between 5 and 80wt.% and particularly between 10 and 60wt.%, and at the same time, other additives and a processing assistant C existing by a volume advantageously between 0 and 70wt.%, preferably between 5 and 60wt.% and particularly between 10 and 40wt.%. A laser to be used in this case is a CO2 laser (wavelength: 10.6μm) having a frequency multiplier (wavelength: 532, 355 and 256nm), preferably an excimer laser.

    Abstract: A thermoplastic moulding composition (I) contains (A) 10-98 wt.% polyamide (B) 1-20 wt.% red phosphorous (C) 0.1-15 wt.% delaminated layer silicate (phyllosilicate) (D) 0-70 wt.% additional additives and processing aids. An article (II) prepared from the composition (I) is also claimed. Preferably the composition (I) contains 5-40 wt.% fibrous reinforcement as component (D). The polyamide (A) contains at least 5 wt.% units resulting from lactam monomers. (A) comprises 5-95 wt.% (A1) polyamide 6 and 5-95 wt.% (A2) a different polyamide. (A) is polyamide 6, polyamide 12, polyamide 6/66, polyamide 6/6T, polyamide 6/6I, polyamide 66, polyamide 610 and /or polyamide 46. The layer silicate (C) is montmorillonite, smectite, illite, sepiolite, polygorskite, muscovite, allevardite, amesite, hectorite, talc, fluorhectorite, beidellite, nontronite, stevensite, bentonite, mica, vermiculite, fluorvermiculite, halloysite and/or fluorine containing synthetic talc. The moulded article (II) has a layer structure equivalent to 1--2-1-n-Z; 1 = the thermoplastic matrix; and 2 = the delaminated layer silicate, having preferably a 40 deg A gap between layers.

    Abstract: Poly(imide ureas) with repeating units of formula (I) (R is tetravalent aromatic or heteroaromatic gp.; n is 2-5), are claimed. Prepn. of (I) is by (1) reacting tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride with aromatic diamine (contg. cyclic urea gp.) in a dipolar aprotic solvent to form polyamidocarboxylic acid prepolymer (II), (2) cyclo-dehydrating (II). USE/ADVANTAGE - Adhesives, paints, encapsulating compsns., prepn. of films, membranes, fibres, surface coatings, matrix materials for fibre-reinforced composites. (I) have very good thermal stability. In an example, under N2, 13.416g (50 mmol) N,N'-bis(p-aminophenyl) -2-imidazolidone was dissolved in 150ml N-methylpyrrolidone (III) then 15.510g (50 mmol) 5,5'-oxybisphthalic acid anhydride was added with water cooling. Mixt. was warmed to room temp. and stirred for 5 hrs.. To (II) soln. obtd. were added 100ml (III), 30ml pyridine, and 20ml acetic anhydride and mixt. was stirred for 6 hrs. at 70 deg.C then poured slowly into 500ml water with stirring. Yellow (I) was filtered off, washed with water, and dried under vacuum at 250 deg.C. Wt. loss on heating in N2 at 10 deg.C/min. was 10% at 513 deg.C. (I) had, from its prepn., structure of formula (II) (p is deg. of polymerisation).

    Abstract: Polyimide-sulphones (PIS) are claimed, derived from (A) a dianhydride component contg. (a1) 25-90 mole% 4,4'-oxy-diphthalic anhydride (ODPA) and (a2) 10-75 mole% dianhydrides of formula (I), (B) a diamine component contg. (b1) 50-95 mole% diamines of formula (II) and (b2) 5-50 mole% other diamines and (C) mono-anhydrides, with ratio A:B = (1:1.005)-(1:1.10) and ratio B:C = (1:1.01)-(1:1.22), or mono-amines, with ratio A:B = (1.005:1)-(1.10-1) and ratio A:C = (1:1.01)-(1:1.22). In the formulae R is benzene-1,2,4,5-tetryl, diphenylsulphone-3,3',4,4'-tetryl, benzophenone-3,3',4,4'-tetryl or biphenyl-3,3',4,4'-tetryl; n, p is 0 or 1; and X, Y, Z is O, CO, SO2 or direct bond (at least one - SO2), with amino gps. meta to X if n = p = O, and para to X/Y/Z if n and/or p = 1. Also claimed are (1) a process for the prodn. of PIS, by reacting (A) and (B) in the presence of (C) and heating the prod. in a solvent, opt. in the presence of a catalyst; esp. a mixt. of tert. amine and lower fatty acid anhydride; and (2) mouldings, fibres and coatings or film obtd. from PIS as above. Pref. (A) comprises (a1) 30-60 mole% ODPA and (a2) 40-70 mole% (I), and (B) comprises (b1) 70-90 mole% (II) and (b2) 10-30 mole% other diamines. PIS are prepd. by reacting (A) and (B) (amts. as above) in the presence of (C) a monofunctional aromatic anhydride or mono-amine. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for the prodn. of thermoplastic moulding materials (claimed). The invention provides polyimide-sulphones with a good balance of properties, esp. good thermoplastic processability (e.g. by injection, moulding, extrusion, deep drawing etc.) and good solubility in DMF, DMA, NMP, DMSO etc., esp. NMP.
