Abstract: Acylphosphine compounds of the formula I where X is oxygen, sulfur or an electron pair, Rl is R4 or oR4, R2 is -OM, where M is a monovalent cation, R3 is aryl which is substituted at least at the two positions ortho to the carbonyl group, and R4 is hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, are very effective photoinitiators for photopolymerizable materials, such as coating compositions, finishes, printing inks, unsaturated polyesters, recording media and preferably aqueous polymer dispersions or solutions.

Abstract: Production of anhydrous 2-amino-1-methoxypropane (I) comprises (a) treating an aqueous reaction mixture (II) containing (I), obtained by reacting 1-methoxy-2-propanol with ammonia (NH3) on a catalyst, with aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution to form an aqueous phase containing aqueous NaOH solution and a phase containing (I); (b) separating the phase (III) containing (I) from the aqueous phase; and (c) distilling (III) to separate an azeotrope of water and (I), which is recycled to step (a) or (b), and then anhydrous (I). Also claimed is a method of separating water from (II) in this way.
